The burning smell is from your coupling and when this breaks the rubber spins across the plastic face of the opposite coupling. Your washer will not wash or spin until this is replaced. fortunately these are cheap and easy to replace. Refer to my step by step instructions to replace yours.

Slow agitating

Sounds like a failure in the gear case but the burning smell makes me wonder if you have a problem with the motor. You will need a appliance tech to verify

I have a Whirlpool Gold Ultimate Care II, Commericial Quality, Super Capacity Plus...it smells. No really it has a terrible odor. It's a sour foul smell. Water and detergent and various clothes washing...

Whirlpool now has cleaning tablets to take the smell out washers. They say they are for HE front load machine but it works on all machines. They are called affresh washer tablets. Just buy some and put all three tablets in the tub with hot water and let the washer go through a cycle with just the tablet(no clothes). By putting all three in the washer at one time it will kill the smell. For later use the package is a three month supply. They cost under 10 dollars.

Sounds like the clutch is slipping but sometime catching. Or maybe the transmission is almost gone. Is there a burning smell? If so, probably clutch.
