I'm not sure if the MG57u is the same, but we have a MG130U and do not use any of the software that came with the camera. Just plug in the USB and set the camera to "PC Connection" and it shows up as a HDD, SD comes up separately. Copy to your hard drive as with any other file. The resulting file is a *.MOD which will not play in most players. If you only want to have the video yourself, turn off "hide extension for known file types" and change the extension from .MOD to .mp4 and any DirectShow player will play it (NOT Windows Media Player). If you want to convert it to anything else, change the extension as stated, then use AnyVideoConverter (freeware) or some such to convert to mpg or avi to play anywhere, or import to dvd video software.
