Xantrex 458 freedom....has stopped charging house batteries off of engine alternator. Alternator is showing that it works (dash gauge). It does charge while on shore power or generator....but not charging while "going down the road".

Fis\rst of all is the inverter supplying 120 VAC? when turned on?. If so the inverter seems to be working.I think your problem is in the truck alternator/charging system. The inverter is independent of this charger..

Loosing power

You need to add up all of the loads connected to the inverter. A 120watt load at 120 volts equals a load of 10 amps at 12 volts.
Watts= VoltsXAmps.
Add to that any other load on the battery - radio, lights, etc. and the standard vehicle battery will be dead in a short time. You need to either have a bank of large batteries, such as two or three group 27 batteries in parallel, or you need to keep the van running so the alternator can keep the battery charged.

AC stopped blowing cold and check battery ight on

If your battery light is on...you may have lost your alternator.
The battery light or gauge for that matter is merely an indicator to show if the battery is feeling a charge.
If it don't feel the charge...the light comes on.
I'd have your alternator checked at your local parts house...a lot of them will test it for free.

As for the A/C...when an engine gets under a load, the A/C usually cuts out to give the engine less work like going up a steep hill, or passing another car, or if the alternator quits charging the battery.

Your Freedom 458 has died. At this point, you need to isolate the batteries from the inverter / charger unit to prevent further risk of fire.

It is normal, with the fried charger, for the battery voltage to plummet even while plugged in. There is no converter to maintain them. When you start your rig, the alternator on the engine is charging the batteries. With the rapid drop in battery voltage, your inverter likely is shorted.

Remove the main battery fuse between the inverter and batteries, as well as unplug / turn off the breaker to the inverter /charger. Take your coach to the nearet service center, as it may still be under (partial?) warranty.

I recently bought a used 2004 Fleetwood Discovery 39L with a Xantrex Freedom 458 system in it. The system worked (sort of) for the first few months I owned it, but now fails to charge the house batteries....

It sounds as if your inverter has failed altogether. This failure could also be caused by power management having issues.

So far, I know that you have a 2004 Fleetwood Discovery 39L. If memory serves, this is a *30AMP* chassis, with 2 air conditioners, using an intellitec power management panel located above the driver position. If I am incorrect, please advise.

I am trying to fix my xantrex freedom 10 inverter/charger but I need the internal wiring diagram. Is there I way that I can get it?

Unfortunately, to protect their proprietary designs, Xantrex does not provide parts or schematics except to their factory authorized service network. Assuming it is not still under warranty that would be voided by removing the cover, you might be able to see any obvious damage and procure the necessary repair parts from a third party, but that might be a lot of trouble to track down without any guarantee that it would actually fix the problem. If the unit cannot be uninstalled and/or brought to a service center, some reps do make "house calls", albeit for a fee.

Xantrex Freedom 458 Combi inverter/charger 2000 watt

OK my 2000 Discovery does the same thing. Try and hit the inverter charger with your fist 3-4 times, then listen and see if the charger fan starts up. I will be bringing my inverter to Portland this week to have the tech look at it. The other thing is it could be the transfer switch. Will let you know.
