It means there is no output from your battery charger. This could be the charger itself is bad. The charger fuse is blown (if it has one) or the wall power outlet in the room is dead. First, check your charger output. You can do this test with a volt meter, another laptop, or a 12v globe and some wires. If that is ok, both charger and wall outlet are ok and the problem is either the battery or the laptop itself. Another possibilty is that it is in fact charging the battery, but the indicator says its not.

Some times the BIOS update can help in this matter.
try going to hp website and enter your product number in the search box (to get to the right product) like XX###XX (do not enter the # and what's after it.
then select software & driver updates, after that select your OS and you'll get a list of compatible software & drivers.
look for the BIOS update (Winflash for HP notebook system BIOS...) and install it on your computer.
consider the instructions during the installation.

good luck

From experience, this would generally suggest the battery is unable to hold a charge. New machines usually have 1yr manufacturers warranty.

Dead battery in HP Pavillion dv7-1135nr

If you still are able to charge your laptop battery all you have to do is plug the laptop into a power outlet. However a noted problem with a lot of hp laptops especially older models is that the battery dies out quickly and then can only hold a charge of about 5-30 minutes of use time. This happens for almost any laptop but every HP I have the battery seems to die more quickly than other computers. If this is your problem then you will most likely have to replace the battery or just use it always plugged in. Here is a link to diagnose battery problems for your laptop and also where you would need to order a replacement battery from.

I have an hp pavillion dv1000 it works fine but the screen is very faint i can barely make out the icons... i tried pushing fn f7 which is supposed to make it brighter and nothing happened... any...

the backlight may be going or has gone out, is it plugged in or running on batteries? when plugged in it should be bright with a battery is usually dies down so as not to use alot of energy.

If that does not help, try function key and making it darker, I know that sounds weird but sometimes it gets stuck in a weird loop, My dell laptop does it all the time.

My red xbox 360 controller wont charge with the included play and charge kit after i turn off my console, it works if i do it as soon as it dies but not if ive played for a little while and then turn it...

Basically an xbox battery has a built in 'memory' that it tells the xbox how much charge is in it and the problem with rechargable batteries is that if they're not used for a while and left at room temperature their charge begins to dissipate so when you plug it in the battery 'thinks' it's charged and tells the xbox the same when in truth it's not. What to do is keep plugging and unplugging the charger on top (waiting until the light comes on) until the charger light stays red (as opposed to going red then immediately green) the small amounts of charge put in each time will eventually give the battery enough juice to clue it as to just how much power it REALLY has in and will then start charging as normal.

Charging problems

Hopefully the battery is just confused and needs to be reset. Drain the battery down until the system shuts off automatically, then take the battery out of the laptop for two minutes and plug it back in, and connect the AC adapter, let it charge without turning the laptop on, then turn it on and hopefully it should work fine again. If not then you may need to buy another battery. Try again with another AC adapter just in case because you don't want to replace your battery (expensive!)

Please rate, thanks!
