My ps3 won't read any discs, games, music, dvd, etc.. I pu tin the disc and i hear it working, but it doesn't start up, ands no icon appears on the menu. The menu does turn on, but nothing else works..please HELP ME! thx

If it wont load your icons and freezes before your xmb, put it into safemode and try restoring the filing system. to get it into safemode...
hold down the power button while the console is in standby. the light will go from red to green.it will beep once flash green beep again, and then beep a third time. after the third beep the light will turn red.
once the light is red, take your finger off the power button and place it back on the power button. the light will go from red to green, beep once flash and then beep twice quickly. after it does the double beep, take your finge roff. the light will stay green and you'll get a screen asking you to connect the controller.
after connecting the controller, try option 3, or whichever option is restore filing system. this can possibly correct media loading and will 95% of the time fix the console when it freezes before loading up your icons(the xmb)
Dear dushy, i recall having the same problem. The way i solve the problem was to purchase a DVD laser cleaner. I purchased this at Costco for about $35.00 dollars. Fortunately this solve my problem try the cleaner. It really worked for me.

Man it is definitely a problem with the disc drive or more likely the blue ray laser if it is just games it wont read.i had the same prob recently but it still read dvds (not br discs though) and it turned out to be the blue ray laser.it just froze one day and wen i reset it it wouldnt read any games same as you with the menu.i had to pay sony 160 euro to fix it as my warrantee was up.

I had the same problem, except my PS3 would still play blue ray movies, but not games. I called Sony, they said to restore system defaults, and if that didn't work to send it in for $150 service. Luckily I read a few more post and saw that I a lot of people were able to get it to work by doing a system restore under the system settings. It erases everything and takes 3 1/2 hrs to clear it, but it's worth saving $150. I'm sure thats all they do at the service center anyway, and then they only give you a 90 day warranty. So I did this and it works fine now. You can even save your data to a usb and put it back on there.

It could be the laser that might of burnt out if not then it could be something to do with the console

oh that happened to mine its because the laser is broken you need to take itback to the shop and either get it repaired or they will give you a new one . they should do . but all the 40 GB ones are breaking at though moment my friends broke and he got an 80 GB instead :D hope this helped

thats quite a common problem..you will have to contact sony for a replacement if its in the warranty period..i had the same problem. :(

You can take a can of air and blow it into the drive. There could be dust or dirt on the laser.
If that doesn't work then its either going to be a bad laser in the dvd drive or main board inside of the dvd drive that is bad. You can order replacement lasers for your ps3 dvd drive on Ebay or you can replace the whole drive as well and find those on Ebay.

i had the same problem you can get a lense cleaner your laser and everything in the cd spot is most likely dirty.....get a lense cleaner you can get them just about anywhere there ariund 15$$

i have the same issue with my ps3. I had to do a software system update, i did. then i go to play call of duty and no game appears on my home screen. i tried other games and dvd`s and nothing. everything else works. i was playing GTA4 and it just froze, i thought it was a glitch or something, so i just turned it off, turned it on a while later and it wouldn't load, i tried other discs and the same thing, it only showed the loading icon, but nothing appeared.

After uploading the official Konami Upload for PES9 my playstation started sticking at replays (crashing). Only solution to power off, when i turned it on it would not read any Blu Rays. If it does show the disc, all the games i've got eventually freeze. I think the Konami connection may be just coincedence, its just very frustrating as i never had any probs before.
