Bought new Motorola modem, called AT&T and configured it. How do I configure Netgear router.

can we have exact model of the AT&T modem
is it connected to a DSL or Cable service

Can we have the exact model of the netgear router

If the modem is NOT a router and really just a router - connect to the netgear internet port and then switch the modem on allow to settle and all the lights to show correctly - then switch on the router - it should now work - most routers will connect to a modem with default settings

Please perform the below steps to reset and reconfigure your NETGEAR router:

RESET THE ROUTER :

1. At the rear panel of the router, near the antenna, there is a very small round pinhole that contains the reset button.
2. Using a pen/pencil/paper clip, hold the reset button for 60 sec. so that the test light starts flashing.
3. After few seconds when the test light stops flashing Power cycle the unit.

RECONFIGURE THE ROUTER:

1. Please remove all the connections from the router. Connect power to the router and then connect a cable from the computer into any of the 4 lan ports on the router. Make sure the modem should not be connected to the router or to the computer.
2. Open up the Internet Browser (Safari, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, etc.).
3. Access the router, usually by typing 'http://192.168.1.1' or 'http://www.routerlogin.com' in the address bar.
4. On the basic setting page scroll to the bottom and click on Apply.
5.Login to the router (Username = admin Password = Password)
6. Click on lan ip setup under advance.
7. Change the lan ip to 192.168.10.1 and under use router as a dhcp server change the starting ip as 192.168.10.2 and ending ip as 192.168.10.51, click apply and click ok for any popup message that arise.
8. Once the browser display some error message like CANNOT FIND SERVER, ACTION CANCELLED etc, Connect the dsl modem on the wan port of the router and restart the computer.
9. Power off the dsl modem and the router after making the connections.
10. Power on the dsl modem and wait till the dsl light comes on, then power on the router.
11. Open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
12. Access the router (http://192.168.10.1).
13. Login to the router (Username = admin Password = Password).
14. Click on Setup Wizard and then select "Yes" and Click "Next" on the detection window.
15. It should give you a "Dynamic IP Detected" or "pppoe detected"(type the Username & Password of your dsl account in case of pppoe detection) and then click next.
16. click Apply.

Check if you can go online with this connection. Once online on the computer through the router. Perform the following tasks to configure the wireless connection:

On the router settings page

1. Click on wireless settings from the left menu.
2. Change the network name SSID to some other name like NETGEAR123
3. Select security options as WPA-PSK. Enter a Password in the passphrase box. Apply the settings.

I hope the above steps help you to resolve the issue.

I bought a netgear from someone to hook to my hughes net modem & hav no idea how to begin to get it hooked up

I rcommend you RESET your Netgear router first.
To RESET the Netgear, power up the Netgear then press andhold the RESET button at the back of the router until all the LEDs flash. Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on yourcomputer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password You can now change the admin password and configure thewireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

PS3 and Netgear WGR614 V7 Router

Basically the PS3 wireless settings needs to be configures with the Netgear wireless router settings.
To test if the modem is connects to the Internet, connect a computer into the modem, if it works then the modem is configured correctly. If it doesn't work, then contact your ISP and get them to test your modem connection.

I need to reconfigure the Netgear router

There isn't really much to configure on a cable modem. If the modem is fully recognized by the cable provider (all lights are lit on the modem once connected to the cable (coax) side), then just plugging in the Netgear router's INTERNET connection directly into the cable modem will work fine. If the modem isn't properly recognized, you'll have to call your cable company and provide them the MAC address of the cable modem. The MAC is a 12 digit hexadecimal (0-9,A-F) number that should be on a sticker on the modem itself - it will be listed as six pairs of hex digits. If the cable company doesn't have that particular MAC address attached to your cable account, then it won't work.

Trying to switch routers, can't get into new Netgear to configure

To configure it you can simply contect a pc to one of its rj45 port. it will give the pc an ip address in a default range. but the must have its network connection configured to receive ip automatically.

See the status of the pc LAN connection and note the gateway ip address. then type this ip in your explore address bar to access the configuration page / program of the router.

Hope that help.

DSL connection not being shared by Linksys RV042 Dual Wan router

Looks like your "modem" is actually a gateway, as is common with DSL devices. It's acting like a modem and a router. So you're actually connecting a router to your RV42. You could get this to work a couple ways.
1. Leave the modem acting like a router and configure the WAN connection on the RV42 as a static IP, and use the IP of the modem. You may also be able to use "obtain IP automatically" in the WAN connection. This way, the modem stores your PPOE information and just forwards the traffic to the RV42. Any devices behind the RV42 won't know the difference.
2. Configure the modem as just a modem (no routing). Your ISP should be able to talk you through this, but in the modem configuration you can look for what's usually called "bridged mode." Then you would enter the PPOE information in the RV42. This is my preferred method.

Netgear Router WGR614 will not connect to internet

Hi,
Looks like when you reset the router you have lost all yur configuration and back to the default factory settings.

Bridge the 5100 first.
1. In your web browser browse to »192.168.0.1 This address will be located on a yellow sticker on the bottom of your modem.

2. The first screen will ask you for your Modem Access Code. This also will be located on the same yellow sticker.

3. Select Advanced from the blue buttons on the left.

4. Click the PPP locations button.

5. The modem may ask your for the Modem Access Code again. If so type it in again and click continue.

6. Select the radio button labeled, "Bridged Mode (PPPoE is not used)"

7. Click Save Changes.

8. A "PPP Location Warning" page will come up. Click "Change PPP Location."

9. A "Restart Needed" page will come up. Click "Restart"

10. Reboot your computer and and then connect the router

11.Configure the router for PPPoE using your ISP uid/pass

12.Configure your wireless using WEP

13.Desktop : Using Dell wireless client configure the client using the same SSID ,wep as configured in the router
Laptop : follow the same as desktop

(by default dell wirelesss client takes over the wireless configuration in dell pc.to disable it and use windows wireless client..control panel ->administrative tools -> services -> enabl2 wireless zero configuration)

14.after all configuration shut the desktop, laptop, router, mdm and pwr them in seg..first modem and then router and then your desktop or laptop

Cheers !!!
