You don't need a colour code as long as you have a test lamp or a voltmeter.
Turn the side lights, indicators, stop lights, reverse lights, rear fog lights on individually and test for a positive wire each time. Label them with some paper tape and a pen if it makes it easier to keep tabs on them.
All your lighting wiring is in the back of the car/truck/hatch, whatever. Your rear light clusters will lead you to all the wiring you need. If its any help, the rear light cluster bulb positions give away which wiring leads to which bulbs. You can see the colours of the wires right there.

In the Uk nearlly all trailor socket wiring is done from the rear light wiring of the towing vehicle so I suggest checking the wiring back from the trailor connection socket and also socket, it could be a broken or cut wire. Also will probably find your vehicle a control unit fitted the trailor socket which could also the problem. Find the pin outs for your turn signal on the socket and connect a bulb across this connection and the common earth to check its not a fault on your tralior.

Standard towing capicity is 2360 lbs with the 4 cyl motor and towing capicity is 5760 lbs with the 6 cylinder motor.

When towing that kind of weight you need to be careful you don't overheat the transmission or burn up the brakes.

you are only allowed to tow a proportion of the towing vehicles weight but this can vary from country to country ,and depends on the local police and how corrupt they are ,also if the holidays are coming up and someone has to contribute to the christmas hamper fund ,or the villa in spain

one third of the towing vehicle weight without trailor brakes ,not sure of max limit with brakes because local law can change between member states

Just tap off of the rear lights , You can do most of the wiring on one side and only have to tap the indicator off the other side.
shouldn't need a relay unless you have lots n lots of lights on the tailer.

If it is automatic then would suggest no doing this. When towing with rear wheels trailing the driveshaft is still turning the tailshaft of transmission,< rear wheel drive > and without motor running the transmission doesn't circulate fluid to cool it off. if it is the only way to move it for you without a trailor then it's best to remove driveshaft and use a car dolly to tow. If it is standard then driveshaft is not does'nt have to be removed. Either way a dolly is what you need to tow it, < towbar won't work > and old school chain or strap can damage fron bumper shell.

If the trailer lights work on another vehicle, the fault must be in the wiring of the plug you installed

it all goes into the os rear light/wireing loom .and dont forget the indicator bleeper ..it is a legal require ment.and there is a relay to counter act the dash board lights from flashing.
