Relief valve on rheem 41v40 s-40f leaks - Rheem 40 Gallon FVR NATGAS Low WATER HEATER 6YR 22V40SF

The valves are the same specs. Is it possible that a new valve leaks, yew. However if both valve leak then there are other problems. Does the valve only leak when hot water is called for? Then check temperature setting on heater. Does it lek all the time? The water pressure is to high ,

if not the inlet or outlet connections-the heating elements or relief valve then most likely have a damaged tank and most likely need a replacement

Replace the relief valve & add an expansion tank.

Unless you are getting more than 150 PSI, you should just replace the valve. It has dirt in it.

Shut off the water supply valve over the heater. Shut off the electric or gas to the heater.
If you have any house or basement water valves below the level of the heater, open them and open a valve that is higher to vent it.
If necessary, open the drain at the bottom of the heater and using hose or buckets, lower the level below the relief/thermostatic valve. Be careful, the water is hot and softens even heavy hoses.
Once the water level is down, unthread the downtube (if there is one) from the discharge of the relief valve, unthread the relief valve from the heater and either dope/tape the threads or replace the relief valve.

This called a pressure relief valve, these are meant to blow off and relief pressure if it needs to. These valves do go bad and need to be replaced from time to time.
