PROJECTION BULB GOINNG OUT. RAINBOW TYPE COLORS APPEARING ON SCREEN. WHAT IS THE REPLACEMENT BULB # ??

There is a protection switch on the inside where the replacement bulb slides out, check to see if it is either tripped or not making connection, If that doesn't fix your problem, check and make sure that there is absolutely nothing on the bulb and/or the glass shield, also visually inspect the bulb for bulges or defects, if found replace the lamp or entire color engine.

IF this is a projection tv of tube nature, you need the projection tubes degaussed. IF it is solid state, you have circuit board problems and that can get expensive...if not impossible when compared to the price of a new TV. BE very carefull of speaker placement near these tube if it is a projection tube type...get the speakers away from the sides of the tv, Turn it on and off several times. (it degausses itself everytime it is turned on)..and see if you see a lessening of the effect...if you do, then with time, this will go away.

the projection tube needs to be adjust for color alignment, each tube (red, green, blue) must be aligned so you there would be no color smear appear on screen. if it is aligned try to set up the color balance, hue etc.

convergence problem...very common

if there is a speaker near the set it will draw the color out

convergence board is failing

have the color wheel checked for damage

There are few cold (dry) solder joints in convergence board of your tv Sony KP-46WT500
Please inspect convergence board and resold dry solder joints.

Rainbow effect has more to do with color wheel style and speed.

You probably need to change out the semiconductors. The parts are STK392-110. There are two of them, one for horizontal and one for vertical. Search it online more.
