Trc-444 no receive

I do the same thing by getting a radio that just plain old don't work. Now, did you buy it or is it a friends that he gave to you to fix? If you bought it than did you buy it to get it running or just to get experience on this model or for parts? Whatever, it is going to cost you more to fix it then the radio is worth so at this point it is a parts radio.

If you do get a hum, that would indicate that the transceiver is working. What is likely, is that the antenna is somehow not broadcasting.
Check out the connection on the coax, and the type of antenna your are using to broadcast.

Ok, i have one CB that is a realistic TRC-474 and it powers up just fine and everything works except theres no noise at all coming out of the speaker! However, my buddy pulled up next to me and i could...

there a several things you can check yourself with a minimum of tools or test equipment. this model has been around for several years and voice coils do expire in the internal speakers as they age. attempt to locate a known good external speaker with a 3.5 mm plug and see if the receiver can be heard through it. if so then the internal speaker has seen better days and the solution/s should be obvious. also in this particular model the receiver output is controlled by the microphone switching and an open receive line in the mic cord/cable or the plug itself would render the receiver unhearable. check with another known good microphone wired for realistic radios (5 pin DIN). the microphone might also have been rewired improperly. make sure the squelch is in the fully counter-clockwise position and the volume is adjusted to a suitable level while testing, 12 o'clock or higher.
