Emerson Research SmartSet Clock Radio

I bought an EmersonReserach SmartSet Clock Radio years ago that would automatically set the time, day, date, and month upon plugging it in. It would also switch automatically for daylight savings time, a feature I just loved!! However, now that congress passed the ruling that daylight savings time is different the clock doesn't change at the right day of the calendar. Now a clock that I never touched to correct the time I am needing to touch touch 4 different times in order to take into account when daylight savings times ends or begins because the clock looks like it doesn't have an mechanism to override the original programmed dates.
Do you know if there is anything I can do to adjust the programming to this clock to take into account the new dates of daylight savings time?? Thx!

How can I get my CKS1850 smartset clock radio to be set for the new daylight savings time and not switch again at the old daylight savings?

Emerson CKS1850 smartset clock- How do I reset it for the new daylight savings time?

  • Anonymous Apr 13, 2008

Is there a way to "unset" the automatic daylight savings changes, since they are now different dates thatn originally programmed?

Can the clock be exchanged for a current one or one that doesn't automatically change?

I have a different clock radio brand with the same problem.

After daylight savings time, the clock automatically changes back an hour during the night.

There is a solution for this already. You can reprogram the clock to use the new DST settings.

Hello fellow Emerson Research consumers! You might not want to hear the answer, but at least you will know what the deal is ...

Before the government changed DST, there was no reason for one to be able to reprogram the DST date on these clocks - so the pre-2007 alarm clocks are hard fixed and cannot be changed or disabled. Go buy a new alarm clock so you don't have to deal with the hassle every year - I missed an important appointment because of it and would much rather have paid $20 for a new alarm clock which I will be doing this week! Better late than never.

After the government changed DST Emerson added a user feature to be able to change the weeks on the newer clock radios which you can find some support for on the web (basically holding the Month/Date button and either the Alarm 1 or 2 buttons, plus pressing + or - to change, but look up the official instructions for your model). If the serial number of your model begins with a 7 or an 8, you can probably reprogram the DST week.

Hope this helped!!

I am having problems setting the alarms on my Emerson Smart Set clock

Directions for Resetting the Daylight Savings Time (DST) Start & End Dates on the Emerson Research Smartset Dual Alarm Clock Radio (cks5055s):

  • This should work for all Smartsets, but I cannot make the guarantee (and no, I don't have any other directions, sorry)!
  • Adjusting the DST Start Date on an Emerson Research Smartset:
    1. Depress & hold the MONTH/DATE and the ALARM1 buttons (at the same time). After 3 seconds the display will show the DST 'start' month, week, and date. It should be alternately showing "4 F" (April and first week week) and "4. 1".
    2. While still holding the MONT/DATE and the ALARM1 buttons, press the DOWN (or "-") button 3 times, until the display is showing "3" (March) and the week as "F2". It should alternately flash "3 F2" and "3. 11".
    3. After this is set, the clock should "automatically" reset itself
  • Adjusting the DST End Date on an Emerson Research Smartset:
    1. Depress & hold the MONTH/DATE and the ALARM2 buttons (at the same time). After 3 seconds the display will show the DST 'end' month, week, and date. It should be alternately showing "10 L" (October and last week week) and "10. 28".
    2. While still holding the MONT/DATE and the ALARM1 buttons, press the UP (or "+") button 1 time, until the display is showing "11" (November) and the week as "F". It should alternately flash "11 F" and "11. 4".
    3. After this is set, the clock should "automatically" reset itself

One thing to note, if you ever have to change the lithium backup battery for the Smartset clocks, it will revert back to it's factory defaults and you'll have to go through his all over again.

And this conclude's Search Marketing Guru's public service announcement. :) We'll be back with relevant online marketing posts with our next posting!

Daylight Saving Time Changes for SmartSet Clock/Radios

Dear Emerson SmartSet® Clock/Clock Radio Owner:
Your Emerson SmartSet® Clock or Clock Radio includes Emerson’s patentedAuto Time Setting System that
automatically sets the clock to the correct year, month, date, day and time, the first time that you plug it in, and
after every power interruption. It also includes a built-in long life lithium battery that can maintain the time and
alarm settings for up to 5 years, or even longer.
As an added benefit we have programmed the internal SmartSet® computer to automatically adjust for Standard/
Daylight Saving Time changes through the year 2097. TheDaylight Saving Time information programmed into
all SmartSet® models was based on the United States Uniform TimeAct of 1966, which formalized theDaylight
Saving Time period that we observe today. CurrentlyDaylight Saving Time begins on the first Sunday in April
and ends on the last Sunday in October.
The new Energy Bill that was signed into law by President Bush in August 2005 includes a provision to
extend Daylight Saving Time. Beginning in 2007 Daylight Saving Time will begin on the second Sunday in
March and end on the first Sunday in November.
Of course this is a situation that is beyond the control of Emerson, or any other company that produces
devices with an automaticDaylight Saving Time adjustment feature. For example most computers, PDA’s, and
many other devices also have automatic DST adjustments. Manufacturers of these devices must now begin to
make adjustments to the automatic DST software to agree with the new DST timing for 2007.
Beginning in 2007 the current automatic DST default settings in this device would no longer be correct. It
would then be necessary for you to manually adjust the TIME ZONE setting 4 times each year as follows:
1.) On the second Sunday in March you would have to set your clock to the next lower number time zone.
For example if you lived in the Eastern Time zone (Zone 02) you would then change your clock to Zone
1 to move it ahead by one hour.
2.) On the first Sunday in April, this clock will automatically advance by one hour. You must then set the
clock back to your correct time zone. For example if you lived in the Eastern Time zone you would set
your clock back to Zone 02.
3.) On the last Sunday in October you would again set your clock to the next lower numbered time zone.
4.) On the first Sunday in November you would again set your clock back to your correct time zone.
Instructions for changing the Time Zone setting are found in the Owner’s Manual.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause due to circumstances that are beyond our control.

There was a sheet of paper that came with my clock explaining how to adjust the daylight savings time settings, but I lost it.  Anyone have theirs?  All i know is it requires that you press an awkward combination of buttons simultaneously, but that's it.
