Insert a tape.

Select the program source you want to listen/record (CD).

Insert a cd, press stop.

Press record on the tape player.

Press play on the CD player.

The volume control or any audio emphasis buttons will not affect the record level.

I'm Sony tech and can help you to sort out problem in your CFD-G505
Do you get any power sign/ power indicator in unit when plugged in/ with batteries?
Let me know to look into related schematics, you need to take apart unit for further checking.

Sony CFD G505 CD Radio Cassette-Corder - I have no power when power button is pressed. It is 6 months old. Could it be a fuse from a power surge. It was pluged in at an older trailer house. The lights do...

If it is only 6 months old I would recommend you take it back to where you bought it as it is still under warrenty. If you start playing with it and take it apart the warrenty will be void. But dont tell them about the old trailer house bit, just it stopped working.

These types of radios typically use a very similar power cord. Your local electronics store will carry it. IF you want to order online, try MCM Electronics.
