Unsupported mode pops u and i cannot play dvd's.

Check region code, make sure its dvd region 1 for U.S. CANADA! If it's a blu-ray disk then it needs to be region ''A'' disk for U.S. Canada If not you will need a region free player. You can also play them on a Pc or laptop if blue ray disk you'll need blue ray player for your pc or laptop,

I have a panasonic sc BT 100 blu ray home cinema system, the iPod and optical inputs appear to not to be working, are there any internal fuses that could have blown

Inputs are not fused. Have you looked at the manual(s)?

Register and download the manual for free at retrevo.com

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Panasonic-SC-BT100-Home-Theater-Systems-manual/id/17669ag210/t/2/

Digital inputs need to be assigned. The optical cable must be routed with no tight bends.
