This is a common problem that happens when the oven gas control valve is sticking. This can be caused by a weak hot surface igniter or a defective gas control valve. One thing that you can try(be very careful doing this) is to give the gas control valve a light tap with something hard like a wrench when the oven is turned on,igniter is glowing but the burner is not on. You will need to remove the broiler/storage drawer at the bottom of the oven. Once you pull the drawer out you should see the gas control valve at the back of the range. Try turning on the oven and lightly tapping the valve housing. This may loosen up any debris inside the control valve housing that might be causing the problem. If the oven burner comes on then try completely turning the oven on and back of several times. And when I say completely I mean turn it on after the igniter is not glowing and burner has shut off. This works about 30% of the time. If the burner control valve stick after trying this procedure then it could be the control valve and/or the hot surface igniter defective. The hot surface igniter would need to be disconnected from it's harness and tested with an OHM meter. Most igniters should have a 500 to 700 OHM reading. If you get a reading that is way off then the igniter is defective and replace it. If the igniter tests good then the gas control valve is suspect and replace it. Most appliance parts retailers will test your igniter for free. When the igniter is on it should glow very brightly. If it is dim then that is a sure sign it is bad.

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Oven won't light, but the stove top burners are fine. Don't smell any gas or any indication the oven is attempting to light....

next time send the brand name and model number so i can look up your machine,if it's a gas stove most likely it will be a bad ignitor, even if the ignitor glows it still could be bad,if the flame doesn't ignite and the ignitor is glowing change it out,if it isn't glowing pull out the ignitor and check it with a meter, common problem.

I have a Garland Stove and Oven. The oven is not working right.

Hi there, most of the newer unit parts are available still, but not seeing it makes it hard to guarantee. I would advise calling a Factory Authorized Servicer in your area, having a problem with gas entering the oven, and not igniting is a serious problem, and it sounds like the pilot is lit in the oven, but could be malfunctioning.
Here is the telephone for Garland: Tel: 1.800.424.2411.
They can recommend someone in your area, or check your local phone book, for Restaurant repair companies, and contact them.
Hope that helps, and thank you.

Oven not lighting on Amana model agds902ss

Helloemauldin Welcome to Fixya
My name is Huum,

When you turn the thermostat on your range on it sends 120 volts to the bake valve and ignitor. The bake valve and ignitor are wired in series and the ignitor draws all the current and heats up. As the ignitor heats its resistance changes and when it is cherry red the current switches to the gas valve and it opens. The amp draw on the ignitor needs to be 3.2-3.6 amps for the gas valve to open. The gas valve has gas to it at all times. The gas valve should open within 40 seconds after the ignitor starts to glow.
If the ignitor is glowing red and the gas valve doesn’t open the ignitor is usually the problem. Sometimes the ignitor will glow red but the resistance doesn’t change and the gas valve doesn’t draw the current.

This is not a do it your selfer!

Tappan TGFS26C, Oven igniter not even

Lets take the oven problem first. Sounds like you have a Hot Surface Ignitor problem. This is the device that glows and lights the burner. You can buy a universal ignitor at most appliance or heating and air conditioning supply houses. Note carefully how the old one is mounted. You may have to make some adjustments to mount the new ignitor, but it MUST be close to the gas burner like the old one! You don't smell gas because the gas valve will not open until the ignitor is hot. All ignitors work with the same voltage, so simply connect the new wires to the old ones.

I'm not certain if you have a standing pilot for the stove top burners or electronic ignition. Remove the top panel to check. If you have a gas pilot, relight it. If electronic ignition, clean the ignitors. If that does not solve the problem you may have to call a technician, as these systems can be complex.

Hope this helps.

Oven fills with gas Maytag Appliance MGR5780BDQ

Your ignitor is becoming defective. Even though it is glowing, it is not creating the proper resistance to "pop" the gas valve open. Instead, gas slowly seeps into the oven cavity until it finally ignites and causes a potentially dangerous situation. Call an experienced technician and have it checked.
