Why is HL 2170W printer saying it is offline. It is wireless and I used Netgear

I am having the same issue. The printer works for a few days, and then the IP address for the printer changes and I cannot print anymore. Any idea as to how to solve that issue?

The printer is connected to the rest of your computer with connecting hardware. If the connecting hardware such as connecting cords or connecting pins are damaged or not secure, then printer would be offline. Users facing the printer offline issue are recommended to check the connecting hardware and if the connecting hardware is found damaged, they would have to be repaired to solve the issues.

Please check that, can you go online with any wireless computer,if you can go online with that, then try to reconnect your wireless printer again (if can't go online then check wireless router)

Have you tried the SecureEasySetup method of connecting your HL-2170W to your wireless network?

Basically, it involves no wires:

1) Press the wireless setup button on the back of your printer (you may need to use a pen or pointed object)

2) Press the SecureEasySetup button on your router

3) Let the two sort it out - Green Go button on printer indicates success.

And make sure you also look through the FAQs and Troubleshooting under 'Initial Setup' and 'Software' sections:

make sure that the printer is turned on.
if you have the printer settings, you can check the configurations.
but if you have windows xp installed on your system, you can check the control panel, printers and faxes, then right click on the printer, you must set it as a default printer, and uncheck the use printer offline.

I just realized what my problem was with this same situation..."Off line". Do the following:

1. Reset the printer to factory default settings: turn off, turn on holding down blue button; after all LEDs light-up release button; All LEDs with go out then flash once.
2. Hook up the printer to an open port on your wireless HUB.
3. Install Brother software (note: go to programs/brother HL-2170 and select remove software prior to reinstalling)
4. Here is the catch: MAKE sure to select the correct encryption code. I was selecting TKIP instead of AES and two things happened...1) the computer did not pick up the printer on the network scan, and 2) the printer will remain off-line.

Once i selected AES, the computer found the printer on the network and viola' no more problems.

I then added my wireless laptop: installed drivers only, the programs scanned and found the printer on the wireless network and that was it. Now both computers are wireless!

just right click your printer icon in printer properties.it will pop out some options.in that options it will also pop out the offline option just click that offline option it will turn in to online option.if u find it hard just uninstall the printer drivers and reinstall it again from the printer driver installation cd.it will work properly.
