Kpcg100np1 kitchenaid coffee grinder purchased used (working) arrived with two shattered parts: the selector knob and the finger guard. Have replaced the knob. Unfortunately then discovered finger guard broken-- ordered part. Took grinder partially apart only to find that it is non-trivial to get the finger guard (old) removed. Help!

Thank you I will look at the diagram -- used to rebuild pianos... forgot about the "smash solution" idea. Ok... do you mind staying in the loop should I run into problems?

And, I'm aware of the explodo diagrams, but do you have experience opening one of these up? If I open the motor housing (rear of device) there are four philips-head screws inside - deep that look like they need to come out, but I'd rather not. I'm hoping that the single (external) philips head underneath the cylinder below the burr drive will give sufficient access to remove the finger guard?

    Hi,

The documentation is very helpful, but I already had it. The point is, the guard that I mentioned does not appear to be easily pulled free. I had assumed it was attached by its flanges to a screw set somewhere. There's no indication which I should unscrew first to get it out. Does it pry out? The broken parts consist of the "wing flanges" that attach it to the collar that is attached to the housing... somewhere. I just don't know where or how it is attached to the overall housing and where to loosen or unscrew to get it out.

    Hi,

Not really sure how the "expert end" interface of this system looks... can you see my earlier questions for example? Anyway, I have a KPCG100NP1 Kitchenaid coffee grinder. I bought in on Ebay. It arrived broken. I was able to replace one part (the knob) and I ordered another part (the finger guard). The problem is that the remaining portion of the finger guard is solidly attached to the housing of the device and I cannot figure how to get it loose. The explodo diagrams don't help, so I would appreciate not getting that advice again. I need to know specifically how to detach the old finger guard and reattach the new one without damaging the unit.

I have a parts exploded diagram this will be beneficial in disassembly i am sure please go to the link below and download the PDF file, you need Adobe reader to view it. Sometimes in the shop, we will Ahem... break, smash, the "Old" bit to get the "New" bit installed, sometimes there is no other way, however. But of course if you can take it down completely, that is best. Anyway have alok at the diagram, that should give you a heads up.

No need to remove the motor housing. You should remove the burr assembly since some parts of the broken gurad might stuck in between the burr and they will need also cleaning with a wire brush. After remove burr then you will have a clear indea how the guard is broken and if any part blocked its way out and you need to have a very good visual inspection how to pull the guard out.

Coffee beans are not going into grinder.

Your grinder is probably blocked.
It may happen if your coffee is greasy or oily.

Try to empty the coffee bin and using your vacuum cleaner, removed has much as possible the grounded coffee around the grinder.

Also, from the inside, look where the coffee grind should drop from the grinder to the brewer unit and removed any grind that could block and prevent coffee to drop.

Removing finger guard and cleaning ceramic grinder in Saeco product

Before starting, find the parts diagram for the Incanto Deluxe (google search: "incanto deluxe" "parts diagram").

To remove the finger guard, first remove the silicon plug (part number 90 in parts diagram) in the center of the grind adjustment knob by poking an unbent paperclip with a small hook along the silicon plug's edge, twisting 90 degrees and pulling the plug out. Next unscrew the phillips head screw (part number 15) way down in the center of the adjustment knob and remove the knob. Then remove the phillips head screw (part number 120) holding the finger guard to the bean hopper.

I'm not sure how to work on the grinder, but from here at least you should be able to get to it. I suspect that simply removing the finger guard may make things a lot better.

Whatever the setting is at the grind is always fine. What can I do to re-calibrate the grinder?

Grind Adjustment Tools required: Large blade and medium Phillips head screwdrivers In order to adjust the grind, follow these steps (Refer to figure A): 1. Remove all coffee from the hopper. 2. Set selector knob to the finest setting (Espresso or Turkish) depending on the model. 3. Loosen both knob retainer screws in selector knob one turn only. 4. While pressing the bag switch, located behind the spout, press the START button so that the grinder will run during adjustment. 810 model - Press the ON or START button so that the grinder will run during adjustment. 5. With the grinder still running, turn the adjusting screw in the center of the selector knob slowly to the right until a slight clicking noise is heard. Immediately turn the adjusting screw to the left one grind setting. This is the finest grind obtainable. 6. Tighten both of the knob retainer screws. Once the ESPRESSO grind has been set (Turkish for Model 835, 875, 890), the other grind settings will automatically set correctly. 7. Press the STOP or OFF button. IMPORTANT: Always be sure the grinding burrs are not touching while the machine is running on the ESPRESSO/TURKISH setting. Otherwise serious damage to the motor may result. dr_buckhead.png

I have a bunn coffee grinder that keeps on jamming up everytime you put coffee beans in it. I took the front part off to clean it out every time it jams, but it keeps on doing the same thing. The model bunn...

It sounds as though your grind is out of adjustment. The grinder is probably set too fine. I have not worked on a G3 grinder but I would think it is like the Bunn G2. On the front knob you will find 2 small set screws and one larger adjustment screw (in the middle of the knob)
1. Set the selector knob to finest setting (Espresso or Turkish)
2. Loosen the 2 set screws about 2 turns.
3. Activate the start switch (you must activate the "bag switch" behind the chute)
4. With the grinder running, SLOWLY turn the center screw clockwise only until you hear a very slight whirring sound (this is the burrs touching).
5. Then, back off the center screw counter-clockwise about 1/8 of a turn, shut off grinder and re-tighten the set screws.
Check the grind in the "drip" setting by running a few beans through... the grounds should be about the consistency of sand. You should get a better flow through the machine with the grind adjusted properly. You may want to check the cleanliness of the hopper in the top... I have seen these dirty enough to impede the falling of the beans to the grinder.
Also, whenever you remove (for cleaning) the 2 larger screws that hold on the front "plate", be sure to put them back in evenly... kind of like one would with a wheel on a car- Finger-tight then slightly tighten each on a little at a time (back and forth) until tight.
Hope this helps.

Ginding problems, all clogged up

Follow these instructions to put grinder back together...

Items needed to clean grinder
1- #2 Phillips head screw driver
1 Cleaning brush
Prep:
Remove all beans from the bean hopper, vacuum out any
beans that cannot be scooped out by hand.
Remove the front and back screws and pull off bean hopper
container from the machine. (Note: The rear screw is longer
than the front screw.)
Note: Doser adjustment knob is available only on Vienna
Digital and Vienna Deluxe Rapid Steam.
Place screws in a safe place so that they will not be lost.
Cleaning the Grinder Viennas

front screw

knob
Before beginning to clean the grinder please be sure to turn the machine off and unplug it from the wall
socket. Grinder Tip: Using an oily bean will cause the coffee to build up quickly and clog the grinder.
Saeco recommends using a medium to dark colored bean that is not oily.
After cleaning the grinder and then brewing a cup of coffee it may take 2-3 grinding cycles for the machine
to dispense coffee.
Step 1:
Remove the black rubber gasket, then vacuum additional beans or grinds from the grinder area (Fig. 1).
Rotate the outer ring of the grinder counter-clockwise until the red line is at the 12 o'clock position (as
viewed from the front of the machine) or until the red line on the outer ring is 180º from the opposite red
line on inner burr ring (Fig. 2).
Lift the inner burr ring out of the assembly (Fig. 3).
Figure 1 Figure 2 Figure 3
Step 2:
Vacuum out any residual grinds from inside the grinder and clean the grinder burrs using the cleaning
brush (Fig. 5). Clean out the grinder coffee chute using the end of the cleaning brush (Fig. 5).
Remove the drip tray, open the service door, remove the dregdrawer and brew group. Gently pull
down the coffee doser door and brush out any ground coffee that may be inside the chute (Fig. 6).
Reassembly:
Be sure that the red line on the outer ring is still in the 12 o'clock position. Place the inner burr ring back
into the grinder making sure the red line on the inner burr is at the 6 o'clock position or 180º opposite from
the red line on the outer ring (Fig. 2). Once the inner burr ring is in place, rotate the outer ring clockwise
until it will not turn any further. At this time the two red lines should be aligned. The grinder is now at the
"0" position. Replace black round rubber gasket (Fig. 7).
Take the bean hopper container and rotate the grinder adjustment wheel to zero (0) (Fig. 8) and the doser
adjustment knob to the minus symbol (-) (Fig. 9). Slide the doser adjustment gear toward the left of the
machine until it stops. (Note: The Vienna Black does not have a doser adjustment knob. Only the Vienna
Digital & Vienna Deluxe Rapid Steam have a doser adjustment wheel.)
Reinstall the bean hopper container being sure to use the LONG screw in the back, then replace the finger
guard using the short screw in the front of the container. Once the bean hopper container has been
reinstalled, rotate each knob through the full range of motion. The grinder knob should rotate from (0) to
(18) and back, and the doser knob from the minus symbol (-) to plus symbol (+) and back.
Place the grinder adjustment knob at the eight (8) position and place the doser knob at the halfway
point between the plus symbol (+) and the minus symbol (-) symbol, or to your preferred settings.

Parts and Grind Selection

The current Kitchenaid A9 burr grinder glass jar is interchangable with the original Hobart/Kitchenaid A9 glass jar; therefor, the gasket should also interchange - contact Kitchenaid customer service to order a gasket.

Setting the grind is accomplished by grasping the body of the ginder in one hand and the grind-selector ring (collar that the jar screws into) in the other. Hold the base tight and turn the selector ring clockwise for a finer grind, counterclockwise for coarser. Be careful not to completely unscrew the selector ring; if you are not sure how much adjustment is left, screw it all the way clockwise until it stops (finest grind); then, back it off, up to one full turn to make the grind coarser.

The selector ring has the words coarse, medium and fine cast into it; these are rough postition markers. There is a triangle cast into the body of the grinder, just above the brand name, that can be used to diral in a preferred level of grind. I use a medium-coarse grind for drip coffee makers; to do likewise, position the selector ring so that the triangle is pointing midway between the words coarse and medium.

Krups XP7240 leaks

The grind selector knob can be removed with the following steps: 1) Remove screw on side near grinder (do not let the screw fall into grinder, :-) ), 2) use sharp knife or similar to pry off cover with three dots. This should be easy. 3) Now you can rotate the grind selector and see that the white clear plastic does not rotate and the black does. There are two little pieces (one black, one clear plastic) on opposite side from grinder that slide over eavh other to keep this knob 'locked' into place. 4) again with a sharp pointed knife or similar you can separate these two pieces to 'unlock' them. This is made easier by lifting the side of the bean holder by the grinder gently and tipping it up. Be careful not to force anything too much. The black part should pop off. 5) Now you can lift off the clear bean holder.

After this good luck. We made it farther into the machine, but could never get to where we needed to go to fix our problem.

Krups must be congratulated for designing a machine that cannot be repaired and must be replaced with new purchases.
