The issue may be resolved by clearing the pause printing in the printer driver or by setting up a parallel connection with the computer. Clear pause printing

  1. From the Windows Desktop, select Start , Settings , and Printers .
  2. Right-click the HP LaserJet printer icon that is being used.
  3. Select the Work Offline or Pause Printing option (if enabled) to remove the check.
  4. Print the document again.
Establish parallel connection
  1. Turn off the printer or remove the printer from the network.
  2. Connect the printer to the PC using a parallel cable.
  3. Power on the printer.
  4. Print the document again. NOTE: If the User Intervention Required message reappears, disable or remove any HP LaserJet software utilities loaded on the system (for example, Status Window, HP Toolbox, etc.). Prove printer functionality and troubleshoot communications; try printing again.
Uninstall and reinstall the driver After performing a cold reset on a product installed with USB, a higher DOT4_00x port is created, causing the printer to hang while printing. NOTE: This is required with products installed on a USB port only.
  1. Uninstall the USB printer driver.
  2. Remove the HP folder and AIO folder from the hard drive.
  3. Reinstall the USB printer driver.
CAUSE: This error can occur if when using a network or printing from a laptop. When the print job goes into a pending status, the printer is either in Work Offline or Pause Printing mode. Hope this helps. Please rate my response.

try altering user profile change the user permission or account type and save it then change it back again to how it was . THis will modify user profile and fix any user profile corruption if windows o/s

My HP 5550 dtn has been "initializing" for 5 days? Is there any fix?
Might be a simple as a bad memory expansion or might be a failed formatter. After 5 days it is not going to start without intervension. YOu need to remove the formatter and if there is a memory expansion in the dimm slot, remove it and then reinsert the formatter and start the printer again. Never remove or install the formatter with the power connected. Formatter is the board that the network or USB cable plugs into. There will be either two black handles that slide to release or a bunch of screws around the outside edge.

Process:
  1. Download the flash firmware updater file from HP.com to the PC desktop.
  2. Turn the printer off and then back on to clear main printer memory.
  3. Double click on the flash firmware update utility file. An HP firmware update window will open.
  4. Select the appropriate MFP in the dialog window. If you assigned a different name to the HP MFP, choose the name that represents the correct printer.
  5. Click on "Send Firmware" when ready to proceed.
  6. The progress bar will begin to move to the right indicating information being transferred.
  7. DO NOT power cycle the product or the pc during this process or the product may become unstable and or unusable without further attention from HP. The flash firmware update can take up to 5 minutes to complete. Please be patient.
  8. During the product flash firmware update, the display on the product control panel will display "Erasing - Programming - Complete - Hewlett-Packard - Ready - Initializing - Ready". Once the download is finished the printer will be in the Ready state.
  9. At the conclusion of the firmware update, the dialog window will show a smiley face. Click on exit.
  10. The flash firmware update process is complete.

The printer shows 49 Service error ....what do i need to do please
A printer model would have helped as I could post a model specific link, this just means you will have to do some of the work yourself. Follow these steps:
  1. Turn printer off and then back on, if it comes to ready, go to step 4.
  2. If printer has 49 error again, you will need to delete any outstanding jobs in the printer queue. Go to the printers folder and double click on the icon for your printer which will open up the printer jobs windows. Delete all print jobs and restart printer again.
  3. If printer comes to ready this time go to step 4, if not, unplug cables from the back of printer, restart printer. If ready now, good, If not, I will need model number, operating system and more detailed infor to give you more specific instructions.
  4. Click here and type in your model of printer. You then want to download the firmware upgrade, choose the easy upgrade option if it is available for you printer as it is a self running file that requires little in the way of user intervention.
  5. Once file is downloaded, double click and let it run, this will upgrade the built in operating system of your printer so that you should be able to print properly now.

Recent printers are plugg and play meaning soon after the printer connection cable is inserted in computer port becomes resourceful least requiring further setup methods. Prior printers required asoftware program installed after printer to computer cable connections were made. The retailer would usually provde the compartible prorgam at acquisition of printer. Installing the prorgam on the computer makes printer device compartble and ready for resourcefulness. Refer to the printer devices owners manual or user guide to setup the devices.

I spent a good week trying to find an answer to this problem... and finally I HAVE THE SOLUTION!!


it's to do with the Port settings.

go to BIOS and change the port settings on your computer.

there are a number of different options that can be selected, just try them one by one, the one that worked for me was "Normal" try that one first, but it may be differnet depending on the printer.

if your LPT port is using it's own driver (not using BIOS to run) you cant change the settings using the BIOS. see if you can change it useing the settings for the dirver. if not try updating the driver. if that doesn't work, and nothing else works, reinstall Windows, that should fix the problem as a last resort.

Hi go into the printer folder and check that the printer states ready not offline if it does state offline right hand click on the icon and select use printer online. If this still doesn't fix the problem then double click on the printer icon this should open the printer window where you will be able to see what is and been sent to the printer.

Click on the document heading and select restart. This should restart the printing with no problems but if it doesn't then click on the Printer heading and select cancel all documents then try printing again.
