The Hard Drive must be Write protected. There might be a Toggle switch around External Drive for Write Protection. Or can you save files to any other USB Drive (Pen Drive) ?
File formats that the PS3 doesn't recognize as something that it can play can only be saved to a USB storage device, or a memory card. You can't download anything to the PS3 hard drive via the browser that you couldn't copy to it from a USB storage device. That is what the error message means. You have to connect an external storage device, because the PS3 won't store this file format on the internal drive. This protects the integrity of the system. If you connect a USB drive or memory card (you will need a USB adapter for the memory card if you don't have a launch PS3), then you can download anything that you want using the PS3 web browser.

t seems that your flash drive has some bad
sectors since normally that's the error message you get when that
happens, try to format your drive under disk management.
Note: your files will be erased if
you format your flash drive.
If formatting your flash drive does not solve your
problem I
will advise you to contact Memorex technical support for better
assistance, you can contact them at 1-877-363-6673
In Windows XP, right click on "My Computer", choose manage. Go to Disk Management and find the drive in question. right click on the drive for more formatting options.
most usb flash drives have a little switch on them that enables/disables writing to the drive
cant tell you where on yours it is as you did not give the model, but there should be a switch
flip it to the other end, try again
