I've charged my blackberry pearl 8100 all day and it will not turn on. I'm thinking that it is the most obvious thing, it will not turn on because it needs a SIM card to do so, duh! The red LED light flashes 3 times pauses for a second then flashes two more times. Am I correct, do I need a SIM card?

I just received a blackberry pearl 8100 white. I was excited to have received a blackberry as I had wanted one for a while now. However, when I went to turn it on nothing happened. I tried re-inserting and charging the battery but nothing happened. I even purchased a new battery from eBay for a few dollars thinking that this would solve the problem. Nothing happened. I have tried numerous times and nothing works. Taking out the battery and sim card and trying to re-charge the phone does not do a thing for me. Can someone help? It doesn't seem to be an issue many have faced. It seems like most of you were able to get your phones working. My phone, unfortunately was given to me and I do not know the original source. But had I purchased this from eBay or such, how could this problem be resolved either way? It came in the box with all the accessories, including the USB and software. What should I do now? Anyone that knows about this issue or can help me please get back to me.

Hi, i have a problem with my blackberry pearl. It is a black screen of death. The light indicator is red. I have tried turning it on and will not turn back on. I have removed the battery and all. But still nothing. This happened when i was uploading the new version to my phone and the data made my computer crash and ever since then my phone will not turn on. I talked to t-mobile and they said that i uninstalled the applications but i dont know how its one button. But anyways they said to go and get back on Desktop Manager but the thing is for that to work you have to be able to turn your phone on. And i cant do that. Anyone have any answers that can help me out. Thanks!

  • Anton007 Apr 04, 2009

Hi, I have the same problem. I had allready removed the memory card as I suspected there may be a problem with it or at least remove it from the equation?

The problem just started out the blue, after receiving a text I read the text pressed the back button & the phone shut down, powered back up after some time & as soon I selected any icon on the screen it shut down (software appears to fall over?). Removed battery several times after red led flasshes 3/2. left battery out over night, now when I put the battery back in the led flashes 3/2 boot the software will not load as phone will not turn on? I had intended to reinstall the software LOL.

But now I can't even do that?

Any help on this would be much appreciated

    Regards,

    Anton

I have an answer for the 3-2 red light blink w/black screen. Remove the battery, hold the end call button and put the battery back in. The red light should stay on for a while now. Push and hold the call button and alternate with the end call button untill the hourglass shows. Allow some time to boot up. I stumbled upon this, so if this doesnt work, try simmilar procedrues. I did get mine to work. Good Luck, dont give up, it flashes that 3-2 code for a reason.

interesting trick - the call then the end. It actually *did* something. It woke up for a second, talked to my computer for a second, then clicked off. Hopefully it'll be charging now. Fingers crossed.

The first solution works best
hole down the red (power) button so the red LED light stays up,and then hold the green button. When the red LED light dissapears press the red power button (end call button) again, and it will do a hard reset.

I hope someone from Blackberry sees these posts, and the many similar ones I've found on the web. There's obviously a major defect in Blackberry as far as power management. I've had 3 units in the past 4 months. All have the same symptoms: They work fine for a few weeks, then suddenly the battery won't hold a charge for more the a couple hours. Even replacing the battery doesn't help. If this is user error, I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong. Neither can the technical support people. Blackberry for me is a total piece of junk. If it weren't for my corporate policies, I'd be using IPHONE. I certainly will do everying in my power to convince the company to switch to IPHONES.

After dropping my phone in water I let it dry for twelve hours, then I followed the solution above by removing my battery but it didn't work until I again removed my batter but this time also removing my sim card and wiping off the dried water stains. I reinserted both the sim card and the battery and then followed the rest of the advice by holding down the red button and then alternating with the green button. My phone rebooted in a few seconds and all my data is still there!

My pearl has been acting weird for months. Shuts down for no reason, only reinserting the battery will bring it back; sometimes have to wiggle the battery to get it back up; but this 3-2 red flashing light seems to be a death rattle. I've tried every combination of charger, battery, sim chip, wiggle, and flat out pounding on it; and all I get is the 3-2 flash.

Same thing hapend to me, i went camping so wasnt able to charge my blackberry curve, so had to let it completelly die. when i did get back and try plug it into the wall charger nothing happend, and then eventually came up with the white screen of death (blank white screen with some sort of timer constantly going). i tried everything on this site that was ment to solve this problem, and eventually found the right one. All you need to do is leave it plugged in without the battery in, and keep taking it out and putting it back in, untill the screen stays black but the small light will flas orange. then leave it for 5 mins and turn it on, should come straight up :)

The real problem:

BlackBerries have issues with power management, especially if they get fully discharged batteries.

The real solution:

Unplug
Remove battery for at least 10 seconds
Re-Insert battery
Start er up and use your phone!

  • gezzelle Dec 07, 2010

This worked for me. My phone was acting funny...letters weren't working, typing slowly, etc... so I turned off my phone. It didn't turn back on!!! :( started flashing orange...then finally lit up green...no screen however no matter how much I charged or pushed on the power.
    I unplugged the phone.
    I removed the battery.
Left it out for 10 seconds.

It's powering up now. ugh. I do not like this phone, but at least it is working!!!

  • pranavb99 Jan 09, 2011

    Worked for me. Thank you!

(Had the battery out for about 10 minutes after charging it overnight.)

Yes!! i finally got my blackberry 2 work after a dead battery. here's what i did, first i charged my battery for about an hour with the wall charger, then with the wall charger, i kept on plugging in and plugging out the cable to my phone. i tried it about like 100 times, and finally, it turned on. then leave the cable connected to the phone. in a while u should see your home screen. the LED light should be blinking. den, just leave the cable in until your battery is fully charged. that's it!

There are a few sources of this error: your battery could be broken. Use a multimeter to find out the voltage. If it is 3.7V or higher, then the battery is fine, if the blackberry doesn't turn on with a 3.7V battery, somethings wrong with the device itself. Try a firmware restore (go to: restore the blackberry firmware). If that doesn't work only way to get it up and running again is to open your blackberry to physically replace the logic board. If you want somebody else to doit for you go to Blackberry Repair. If you want to do it yourself, here is a Blackberry Repair Guide that shows how, the part is available on Ebay.

My Pearl's radio shut off during a call. All was well with the battery. It would remain full for 2 - 3 days on a full charge for almost 1 year. I plugged the unit in to charge it . The radio was off because it shut off when the power was too low and I tried to turn it on in connections menu and it wouldnt go back on. I then tried to restart the phone and it wouldnt turn back on. I followed the directions for hard reset and the phone is now back on. The only thing is the battery will not charge at all now. So the radio wont go back on!

My phone had water damage, because my 10-month old son was teething on it. A friend of mine told me to put it in rice and let it sit there so the rice could absorb the moisture. It finally started working after about 3 days of laying in the bown of dry white rice. But then all of a sudden the next day it was completely dead again....lol!

Ok, I happen to have a blackberry, I bought this off on ebay for $20.00. this item are brand new, this including the software, battery, usb cable, cradle to hold blackberry. it is brand new even thought this model is old. Fine, until 6 months later, it went like dead. I have tried many methods, until I tried many way to get this up and running, Even I had another blackbeery 7290, .I think there isnothing wrong with battery if u guys has a issue on BB being shutting down itself. Last night, I tried to put my BB on my Air Condition duct to see if I can get this to start. It did came on, however when I use my BB around the room temperature. That damn BB of mine went dead. so I took my battery out and put my BB back next to Air Condition duct again, and waited for 10 min, and put battery back again. it went on again. I am going to try fix the issue on how it went off, I think it has something to do with normal room temperature, However , some of you ppl think it has something to do with water / moisture. but . I think I found the solution on why or how the BB shutting down it self. Try to put your BB next to air condition to cool it off and try the battery back on and see it for urself, hope this could find the problem, Althought, I have tried many way to hack this BB to bring it back to life! Many regards . Damian

Blackberry pearl just started tripping yesterday. Was on charger, went to get it, and it the boot seuence was looping (hour class - then red light - hour glass - then red light - would let you do that all day if you let it. anyways, looked everywhere - even here, but the solutions werent helping. Found this link. This procedure gets the blackberry out of the loop cycle long enough to reload software .. sorry, but everything you had on your blackberry will be lost - if you didnt back up data via desktop manager. anways, check it out and let me know if it helped you like it did me.

Same problem happened to me... started as a SIM card error and then when i turn it off to reset it it didnt turn back on.

take this for what it is. i hit the backside of my blackberry 3 times on my knee and tried to turn it on again.... it worked. the old "kick the box" method has worked again!!

A few weeks ago, my USB charger at work stopped charging my BB (tried updating my device manager, no help). So I use my wall charger at work and my USB at home (still worked fine). My battery has decent life, and no signs of being old. Yesterday the phone started acting weird, internet wouldn't work, then got a "SIM card rejected" error. then the battery was dead. plugged it in overnight on USB at home. This morning, dead as a doornail. after a lot of panicking and removing/inserting the battery/cards, I plugged it into the wall charger, and it is working again. I may need a new battery or a fix to the power supply, but at least it appears to be charging.

Same here. all i do is take the battery out, and put it back in. and try and turn iit on. if it doesnt work the first time, i try multiple times, and it eventually starts working again/

It works now!!! not really sure what was wrong, but i had taken the battery out of my black b to put my sim in another phone ( dont ask) and when i was done i put my sim and battery back in my blackberry and it wouldnt turn on at all, not even when plugged into the charger. SO then i finally got frustrated with the black b ...and removed the battery to take out the sim to put it in another phone and put the black berry battery back in it for safekeeping and magically it came on! So once again, i bravely replaced my sim back in my black b and it worked fine....... wierd huh...just my kind of luck

OK OK OK OK!!!! I believe i have solved the problem but im not sure yet. If you are getting the battery with a line through it when you plug it up and your battery is in it or your light goes on for about 5 seconds and cuts off. Everybody is telling you to drop it but why? I believe its a short because i dropped ine about 100 timesw and nothing! So when you have this problem do this: take your battery out and where the little copper gold prongs are on the phone, tap below that on the black piece that looks to be the prongs are coming out of. if it doesnt work try it again and a little harder. I did it the first time and it turned on like normal. So try this before dropping it. Let me know how it works.

Replaced the blackberry battery and it immediately booted up. No raindance or maniacal pushing of buttons required.

Took out the battery today to show someone (the battery) and I put it back in and all i get is a flashing red light. I charged it all day, and nothing happens. just wanna cry

Well this might sound stupid but... You have Taken out the battery but you should not have see all phones have power even when off thats the only way to store data without a sd card.
So what you did was take out the battery at a bad time , Thus killing all the power in the phone.
Solution - Take your battery and try to find someone you know with the same phone put your battery in there phone charge it and then put it back in yours.

There are no special ways of turning on the Blackberry.

Simply power on - it is fully charged - if this doesn't work, remove the battery for a couple of seconds and re-try power on.
