There is a setting in the device that changes to night time colors automatically when it gets dark if selected. The display controls allow adjustment of brightness and change of colors. If operating by battery alone, some battery saving feature may be at work. Best to reset to factory settings and then reconfigure the unit as per instructions in the attached manual. All the maps and data will be lost and you will have to re-install. So make sure you have access to the map files which can be reloaded after the settings are complete.

If you turn on your tom tom gps device and the only thing that comes on is the tom tom display screen, then you need to reset it first. To reset it, what you have to do is to hold down the power on/off button for about 15 seconds and that will reset your tom tom, if it does the same, then you have to reinstall the tom tom application on it.
To reinstall its software, you connect it to a computer then it will detect the device, then the latest software downloads will come up, download it on to your gps, now when you plug it into your car and turn it on, it will get passed the tom tom display screen and start up normally.

This is for the RDS-TMC antenna.

Plug the end fitting on the antenna into the bottom of the Tom Tom. Plug your normal power cable into the antenna.

If it's working, when you turn it on, you should see a new display, narrow, vertical, on the far-right side of the screen.

Try these 3 things - wait at least 20 seconds before trying the next step:
* Reset the device, you may need to use a paper clip to do this, then try the power switch.
* Remove the SD card and re-insert it, then try the power switch
* Hold down the power button for about 5 seconds.

try making a back up using tomtom home, also create a directory on your computer and save the contents of your tomtom there, i had this problem which turned out to be corrupt firmware/ application, which after i formated and reloaded the f/w/app from tomtom.com it worked fine....be sure to back up before you format,
then you can relaod your maps
