My hp c4280 say the usb is not connected when I'm trying to get it to scan, help.

USB cable may be bad, try a new one and see if it helps.

These cables are normaly universal, check and see if you may have one from an old printer just laying around before buying a new one.

Try reinstalling the driver. Make sure you have the newest driver from www.hp.com/support - search your C4280

Your print driver may be corrupted. So, give this a try:

Delete your AIO icon from Printers and Faxes

Download the latest driver for your operating system from here:

Disconnect your USB printer cable

Restart your computer

Reconnect your USB printer cable

Your computer should see your AIO and install the new driver.

If your computer does not see your AIO, your USB printer cable is faulty or try another USB port on your computer.

Do you have the usb connected tot he front of the computer or the back?Switching to a different usb port sometimes fixes the issue.

Install software that is twain compliant.
Maybe the HP bundle that came with the printer.
Also Paint Shop Pro,Adobe Acrobat.Photoshop etc.
Use the usb cable after the install of the HP drivers then you may change the default location of where scans are saved.

it is not inserted properly

You must give scan commands from within HP Device Manager.  Try this, it should be fine.

Try This: Go to my computer on your PC. Check whether the C4280 appears. If it does try and scan from there.
