My HP Pavilion 21020n has given me an error message stating my system fan failed, where can I find the system fan?

What is the product number and/or service tag number. These can usually be found on the back or bottom side of the unit listed under the serial number.

90B fan error

Start your notebook and start tapping the F2 key. In the diagnostic screen perform the hard disk diagnostic. If the diagnostic reports a hard disk smart test fail, then your hard disk is failing and must be replaced. That is the only way you will be able to return your notebook to useable condition.
If hard disk is ok I suggest you goto HP support Forums at

New case fan running but still getting error message system fan failed.

Did you try;

Power off, power unplugged to computer.
Press the Power On button, and hold it in. Hold for a count of 10 seconds.
Let go.

Do this procedure two more times.

Plug the computer back into power. WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.

This method clears CMOS Error Codes, and sets BIOS Setup back to the factory default settings.

I have an HP Pavilion a1730n. For the past 5 times I turned it on, I received an error message Error: The System Fan Has Failed!Service PC to prevent damage to the system.PressF2 to Continue I ran HW...

1. Check if fan is spinning. If not, replace with new one or check cables.
2. Check if there are no swapped fan connectors when reconnecting mb cables.
3. Check BIOS update on HP website. Choose your OS here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3339287&
4. Check for a BIOS setting for disabling the fan monitoring.
5. Install a monitoring app which reports fan speeds and temps. See http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
6. Check if CPU fan works.

I have an HP M7100Y Media computer runnign XP and replaced the cooling fan but when I boot I get an error message System Fan Failure press F2 to continue. How do I avoid the error message?

Does the fan spin up? There is a third wire on the fan that is interogated by the uProcessor to determin how fast it is spinning. If it is spinning but not registering, there is an interface problem, maybe poor connecion on the socket it plugs into?
Hope this helps.

System fan has failed

Your system's fan has failed. If it is under warranty, you need to have HP made aware of this failure.

CPU Fan Failed

Yes that is what you need to do. It's either due to your CPU board having issues or your fan is just old and needs to be replaced. You always need to have a fan running to cool off your CPU. Let me know if this helps and if you need anything else.
