My bulb in my RCA tv needs to be repaired. I think it's the bulb, but wanted to know how much that would cost me to look at and repair. The screen is half black and then i get red/green lines. Was showing half of the picutre now it's no picute half black and half green and red lines.
If you have colored lines and all it is not a bulb problem. Sounds like a light engine. The bulb will either light up or not. It won't give you just lines. This can be a very expensive repair if the part can be found. Thanks for using fixya.

When was the last time u replaced the projection bulb, yes it could be that simple the projection bulb it dead. The bulb last only about 1 or 2 years,by using the tv on about 4 or 5 hours a day.
The bulb would cause a dark picture or no picture at all. You have a convergence issue and the set will need to be repaired by a technician. Cost would be 150 dollars or more depending on shop rates in your area.
There is no bulb in plasma tv's. LCD's have a backlight and projection tv's have bulbs.
Unfortunetly it sounds like your power supply has failed on you. It is repairable. At 3 years old I wouldn;t think you have any warrenty left (perhaps extended store type) so you want to get a repair estimate before spending any money. You may find it cheaper to get a new tv. Or not that much more. You should be able to get a estimate from Sanyo repair depots or tv repair shops or ask the local stores about repairs and they may tell you who to talk to. The repair cost can be reasonable but can get expensive if they find a lot of repairs are needed. The parts are cheap but the labor isn't (and shipping etc) so make sure you weigh out repair verse replacement to avoid a bit of a shock.
Not the bulb,Bulb is good. The convergence is dead.Must know how to solders? To repair it ur self.Must replaced 2 convergence ICS and some or all the resistors.Tries Tv repair World.com,Tvrepairkits.com to buy a convergence kit.The Shop will cost u $300 for parts and labors.
Joe,
I've never heard of a color wheel costing that much even with labor included - I think I'd try to find another tech for his advice.. If you have trouble locating one try NESDA or let me know what city/state you're in and maybe I can help recommend someone.
That said, if the lamp is good the next logical thing to check is the ballast. If the ballast is not supplying voltage to the lamp then it clearly won't light. A ballast is not that expensive, similar to a ballast in a floresent light - only a bit more complex. In any event I would strongly suggest finding a real professional first we are out there...

You need a new bulb or fuse, as yours went out. If under warranty call the warranter. The tv should have lights on it that blink if it is a bulb, my samsung does this. If there are no leds on the tv, ie the standby led is off, then its your fuse.
The problem is your bulb is going out or malfunctioning. I had this same problem and Sony's repair service couldn't fix it. I posted on another forum and found a great tv repairman that told me that when the lamp is going out or bad that it can cause the tv to do strange things. I replaced the bulb and the problem is gone. Here's a tip, you can replace just the bulb for about half the price of the full lamp assembly. Sony wants $250 but I bought just the bulb for $125 on ebay, spent 20 minutes taking apart the housing to replace the bulb. Just make sure you take note of how the spring is installed before you take the first part off. Other than that, piece of cake.
