This model has issues with a small micro fuse that will blow for no particular reason. Poor design most likely. This fuse is a solder on type and is very tricky. Have a shop check it for you before you trash it. Should not be an expensive repair. Thanks for using fixya.

I only get audio on tv when watching dvd, no picture

I hope you have made the connections right. If the connection to video input ( yellow connector) is right, then the cable it self may be defective. Please try interchanging video cable with one of the two audio cables.

Don't know how to connect to tv

If the TV has audio output available, there will be RCA jacks somewhere for that. The standard colors are red for the right channel and white for the left, and they'll be clearly marked as audio outputs. Not all sets have audio outputs, though, while they usually have audio and video inputs. So if you find RCA jacks on the set be sure to see how they are marked.

If the TV has output jacks, all you need is a cable with the appropriate plugs at each end. The TV needs RCA plugs, while the input connector to the speakers varies by manufacturer. Typically the speakers will use a 1/8-inch stereo jack if they were made to be used with a computer, and RCA jacks if they were meant to be used in a home-theater setting. In TV sets with audio outputs, the output may be fixed and independent of the TV volume, which means you can turn the TV volume down and use just the external speakers. Or the audio output may vary with the TV volume, meaning you'll always need to have the TV volume on as well. Some people find this annoying.

If the TV doesn't have an audio output available, you can't hook the speakers to the TV. What most people do in that case is use the TV as a video display in conjunction with an AV receiver. The audio and video sources connect to the receiver, which in turn drives the speakers and provides a video output to the TV.

My RCA L46WD22 TV turns on but there is no picture or sound, just "unusable signal" message.

This is a very common problem with these models.
The problem is a fuse that has blown, if the following is true:
No Video on any input BUT HDMI and
No Audio at all.
Purchase a fuse, these are freaking tiny from digitalkey.com or mouser.com F1455ct-nd
Pull the back off of your unit
Pull the cover off of the PCB housing. It is the box that contains the hook ups including the cable tuner.
The silver box that you screw the cable to is where you begin to look for this fuse.
About two inches behind this silver box is some numbers printed on the board 7c32 and partially obscured will be 1c33
Using a big magnifier look next to the numbers listed above, you should see a tiny rectangle fuse with an F on it.
This F fuse is a 500ma fuse that is too small for the load
The fuse listed above will have a G on it. It is a 750ma fuse.
Call the repair shops in your area, tell them that you know the problem, have the part and you want to know how much the bench time and labor will be to repair your unit.

RCA L46WD22 LCD tv (3 year-old unit)...No picture, tried unplugging for a few hours to ''re-set'' the computer...nothing, tried to view a DVD, nothing, just a black screen with the ''unusable signal''...

The back lights inverter is working because you can see the "Unusable Signal' on the screen, if the inverter is dead, yoo will see nothing on the screen at all.
If the T-CON (LCD controller) is dead, you will see just gray glowing screen with no pictures or text.
You may have problem with video processor in the main logic board (tuner, audio, source selector).
Parts for your TV:

This is going to be difficult repair since you do have a way to try out the replacement board to be sure that is the problem. RCA service person has that advantage of parts in stock to try out.
I estimate the board from Jimmy to be about $150, from RCA will be twice as much, plus labor.

I am having issues with my RCA L46wd22yx5. First cable is on channel 3. that channel keeps saying unusable signal. Video 1 is the DVD player. Same thing..Video 2 is the Xbox 360 same thing and the HDMI1 is...

Check to make sure that the individual cables are connected to the corresponding channel. For example, DVD player is connected to the "Video 1" output on TV. On the back of your DVD, the cable is plugged in the "out" output, going to your TV the cable is plugged in the "in" output(red, white, yellow) Are you using an RCA cable(red, white, yellow) for the units?

I hooked it up the way the manual said and it doesnt work

Try whatever applies best below, in order...

Cable Box optical Digital Audio to Digital Audio In. (This brings TV-related multi-channel and normal audio into the receiver so you can hear it over the speakers. Turn TV volume OFF.

The cable box probably has a pair of stereo Audio Out RCA jacks. Run those directly to the TV so you can watch and hear cable programming over the TV's speakers without having to turn the system on. Turn TV volume UP.

Depending on your TV's Video In capabilities, use the Cable Box HDMI, Component (Red, Blue and Green), or Composite Video (single Yellow associated with the Audio Out) directly attached to the TV.

RCA R301F1 remote problems

If you have tried 5 remotes I would have to say that the set has a problem in the remote circuit. You will need a tech to look at it and repair it. Let me know how this works out for you.'

Verify first in the audio setup on screen menu that the speakers are not set to OFF. Otherwise you may have bad power amp sections.

Lost signal & sound

lso had the exact problem about 2 weeks ago on my L46WD22. Took it to the authorized repair shop and they told me they had others on their shelf for over a month. Since the board has been on back order for a while, my repair shop called and actually got to talk to an engineer at RCA. The problem seems to be a surface mount fuse that RCA said they also could not get. My repair center said that he found a fuse to fit the board, and though it was a higher rated fuse, installed it. TV works fine and it is back in my house, but the repair center is not getting paid for the work they did not fix it!!!
