Try an other usb cable. If that's not the problem, try turning off both your pc and your printer. Wait for a few minutes, then turn them on again. Try printing something. If you still can't print, you could try removing the installation of your printer (go to control panel, find add or remove programs, find your printer, remove it). Then, install it back again. If you do not have the installation disc, download the drivers from hp.com (just click on "drivers & support, enter the name of your product and choose your OS)

Make sure you're plugging the USB cable from the machine into a USB port in the BACK of your computer, not one of the front ports or a port on a USB hub. The cable and machine need more power than most of those ports provide, a technical detail that Singer doesn't realize. Good luck!
