I have the Westinghouse Unplugged Vacuum model. No matter how long I charge the battery back, the vacuum will run for 5 seconds then turn off. The hose is securely plugged into it's socket. The dirt department is emptied out. I'm not sure why it would do this. If you know anything that could help, I'd appreciate it! Thank you

If both batteries are behaving the same way then this is probably a charger problem. When you insert the battery pack into the charger does the 'charging' light blink for 30 minutes (fast charge) then go steady? I noticed that one of my batteries was causing the light to come on steady immediately I inserted it into the charger. When I tried to use the battery pack I got the same problem everyone else is seeing, i.e. vacuum cleaner shuts off in less than a minute, so I conclude that when the charging light is on steady then the battery is not being charged.
If the charging light does not blink when you insert the battery (i.e. comes on steady or not at all), try removing the battery and re-inserting it into the charger.
Try a conditioning cycle on your battery packs. To do this:
* Insert the battery pack into the charger
* Before the charging light lights press the 'condition' button located just above the charging light.
* The 'conditioning' light should blink. This is a light which does not normally illuminate, and it is located below the condition button and above the charging light. The charger fan will run quieter in this mode.
* Leave the battery pack in the charger for 24 hours while this cycle is taking place.
I'm not a service technician so perhaps someone else might like to post other solutions or corrections to this one.
Check if it will power the suction-only tools. My brush motor overheats after 5 seconds or so and the vac shuts down, but the accessories are still useful. No luch yet finding a replacement brush motor...
I have the same problem. I have charged both batteries and cannot get it to run. When I push the on button the light comes on but when I try to use it the light goes off.

Westinghouse Unplugged vacuum stopped working when in horizontal position
and then would cut off in any position after a few minutes. Now will not work at all. Is there an adapter to fun this machine with a cord.
I have charged both batteries until charging was complete. Yet it still stops after 5 or so seconds. A red indicator light illuminates at the start stop button also right before it stops. Its seems that the brush stops spinning just before shutdown.
I have the exact same problem. In the beginning of the disfunction, one of the batteries seemed to not take a full charge, but the other one would still power the vacuum for a reasonable amount of time. Then it started shutting off within just a few minutes with both batteries, even though they had both been fully charged according to the instructions. Now it won't run for more than 5 seconds with either battery. I had been in love with this vacuum when I first got it. It worked great, but I haven't used it nearly long enough to expect it to quit working! I've been trying to find some kind of tech support, to no avail.
I have the same problem with my Westinghouse Unplugged 1600A vacuum. I called the service information number on the bottom of the charger and reached a company called Fox Intl. They informed me that the vacuum is obsolete and there are no replacement batteries available for purchase. I said, "So, basically you're telling me that the whole unit is toast. Is that correct?" To which he replied, "Apparently, yes. I'm sorry." Time for a new vacuum with a better waranty, I guess.
vacuum shut off while using, hit the on switch with no results, made sure plug was secure in the electrical outlet, checked outlet for power, which was on
