Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop and the charger for it stopped working. I bought a new one by a different company, which worked for a bit but then that became faulty too. Today I got an iGo universal charger, and when I plug it in, the light on my laptop goes orange, and starts flashing, instead of going green..If I play around with the wire, it might go green for a split second..but then it either goes back to orange or has no light at all.
Does anyone know what could be wrong? I cannot tell whether I just need to buy a new Dell charger, or whether it is something to do with my laptop battery..
First of all, it could definitely be something with the battery. Batteries have a finite life-time, and yours might had reached it's end...
Anyway, chargers for laptops are quite "unique" for each brand, sometime even for each model. There's a chance that by your "trial and error" you might even caused more damage... :/ You should CAREFULLY take a look on what your laptop consumes, in terms of VOLTAGE and CURRENT. Connecting incompatible charger (even if it's plug fits perfectly) might (and often will) damage your battery and/or the motherboard.
With that said, try replace the battery (if you can try it without buying a new one - better), then use your ORIGINAL charger. Of that doesn't work - use a replacement branded charger. If that doesn't work either - you might need to check it the laptop still works.
Good luck!
