Press F8 when you turn on the computer and from the list of options select safe mode and boot into safe mode when you are on the desktop screen go to the device manager ( you can use this path : start-run-devmgmt.msc) in the device manager go to display adaptors right click it and uninstall it.
after that restart the computer.
if this doesnot work again boot to safe mode and try to do a system restore (start-all programs-accesories-accesibility-system tools-system restore)
select a date when your system was working fine, that should fix it.
If your computer came with a motherboard disc the drivers could be on it
Click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to display adapters + to expand you might see a yellow question exclamation mark ? mark ! or a red x right click select reinstall drivers
Want to make sure your drivers are in place and no errors have occurred? Simply click start right click on my computer select properties then select device manager scroll to Display Adapters and click on the small "+" you should see the model of your PCI Express graphic card there. If there is a problem with it, a yellow exclamation mark should appear besides it. If you don't see it everything is OK and your card is working properly.

unfortunatley that didnt work, thanks though. I tried both but yea unless i go through safe mode it still restarts when im using the external monitor and its still really distorted and the laptop lcd still is blank but still looks like its on when i try jst using the laptop :S
Its working fine now, all I did was just shut it down instead of restarting it and the screen came on fine, it was probably the system restore that helped. It just needed sometime. Thanks for your help
