There should be a drain plug on the side of the engine to drain the oil back out.

  • Anonymous Sep 14, 2012

That won't help it start. He didn't ask you how to drain the oil.

  • K W Jun 24, 2014

He said he put too much oil in it. It won't start until the excess oil is drained out.

It is amazing how dumb some of these comments are. It seems that only the dumbest people in the world choose to offer 'solutions' on message boards like this one, and nearly all of them, including all of the above except for nobaddog230, are just laughable.

You can drain the oil from the fill point. Just remove the dipstick and tip the mower. Be sure to use SAE30 and not 10w30.
The 10w30 will cause excess pressure. Use carb cleaner on your carburetor.

That won't help him get it started. He didn't ask you how to drain the oil. He probably already knows that. You comment is useless.

SOURCE: Toro Lawn Mower Won't Start

this is a very common problem with these toro mowers. the needle valve in the bowl of the carb. is plugged up with dirt or varnish from the fuel. just under the primer bulb there is the carb bowl. it has a nut under it that holds it on remove the bowl and make sure fuel flows constantly while the bowl is off. push up on the float to stop the gas flow. this could be messy and dangerous. careful with the gas. its flammable. best solution is to remove the carb and soak it overnight in a parts cleaner like gunk. caution small parts inside. this happins every year on mine no matter what i do. seems like the orifice is so small it clogs easily. good luck

SOURCE: billows of white smoke when Toro lawn mower runs

You overfilled the oil. If the mower runs, just go ahead and mow grass until it runs the oil out of the gas tank. Or you can empty the gas tank and fill with new gas. White smoke is not a serious problem. Only a hassle.

Hi michael, You have most certainly put in too much oil. Try draining a bit off and then clean the spark plug with some paper towel. Leave the mower level for a few hours and then try it again.

Toro Personal Pace sounds like it is running at half power

got oil in it, or do you add oil. Left outside alot, fuel line clogged. Is the gas old. Check the blades and the exit portion of the clippings. Does it have a drive train for ease of moving. those can bog down a mower. good luck

I put too much oil in the mower over the past couple months. Two days ago the mower began steaming. I shut it down immediately. Today I did an oil change and cleaned the mower up but after I started it,...

If you already changed oil and it is at proper level on dip stick let it run for about 5 minutes to burn out any excess oil in cylinder, if it continues to smoke you probably blew a gasket or seal on engine. If that is the case you are looking at buying a new mower unless if it under warranty or you have a cheap mechanic.

Was using my toro lawn mower when big clouds of white smoke started to come out of it. I put oil in the oil tank and it started to pour out the air filter. How is that? Now it won't start at all.

You have big problems my friend! You have blown a head gasket, or broke the rings around the piston. The gasket isn't as bad as the rings. But neither is a good sign. It may be time to get a new mower; sorry for the bad news..... :-(

if your motor doesn't have a dip stick fill the oil to the sight ring inside the fill tube, try and not overfill , this will cause seals to blow out due to increased pressuer

Something everyone over looks is oil. Did you check the oil? You seemed to mention everything else but. If you have a low oil switch with low oil it will not start

Mower starts then it smokes

If you spilled any oil on the engine, it will smoke for a few good minutes until it burns off.

Or, you may want to check the air breather. It may be dirty.
