Nikon LS-30 causes Kernel Panics?

My Nikon LS-30 starts up, the G3 to which it is connected boots fine as well.
If you launch System Profiler, in Tiger, it will recognize the Coolscan III scanner attached to the computer through the PCI SCSI card installed in the computer.
Then during normal operation there would happen a Kernel Panic, the problem got more and more frequent, and now when I try to start the scanning soft (be it Vuescan or SilverFast) the computer has a kernel panic.
I've changed cables, changed SCSI port, SCSI cards, turned the termination ON and OFF, tried different Macs, different versions of Vuescan and SF.
Any ideas whatelse can I try?

SOURCE: Nikon Scan doesn't recognize scanner

You need to check that the ASPI drivers are loaded, otherwise it will not work. The LS-2000 works with Adaptec ASPI v4.71. These drivers do not come with the Nikon product.

SOURCE: PC (Dell) won'r recognize scanner (nikon ls 2000)

This is a problem with SCSI bus speed too fast for the legacy device. The recommended SCSI controller is the Adaptec 2906, which will recognize legacy devices and slow the bus speed for them.

You also need an older ASPI driver set, version 4.70 available from Adaptec at http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/speed/software_pc/aspi/aspi_v470_exe.htm

Before you install the 4.70 version you need to be sure to remove any newer versions of these files: Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}ASPI32.SYS Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}WOWPOST.EXE Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}WINASPI.DLL Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}WNASPI32.DLL

These files may be found in WindowsSystem or WindowsSystem32. In order to delete them, you will need to restart your PC in Safe Mode. Once they are gone, restart your computer normally and run the ASPIINST.EXE program which was extracted by running the file downloaded from Adaptec.

Finally, you need Nikon Scan 3.1.2 for the LS-2000, available at http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/81

SOURCE: I would like to connect my old SCSI coolscan iii

If your macbook doesn't have the correct SCSI card (SCSI II - d-sub mini 50 pin x2 connector) installed, you aren't going to be able to do this. You will need to find this SCSI card and install it in a computer that will accept it.

First, Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them.
But it sounds like the following;
You are experiencing a Kernel Panic as seen and described in Apple doc.#106227. If not, disregard.
FJ has some good KP tips.
Here's the most used site for Resolving Kernel Panics. Please do all the steps in order, even if you don't think you need to do a certain step.
Do the Disk Repair first; that may do it! (let's Hope!)

Mac laptop screen froze with message stating must turn off laptop

font.f1 { font: 12px Helvetica; } Thanks for asking your question with Fixya Support. I will be glad to assist you.

What you are experiencing is what is called a Kernel Panic.
A Kernel Panic, is a internal fatal error, detected by your system from which it
cannot recover from safely. Such an error can be the result of a software
function or operation failing to execute as it normally does, or halting without
warning, or even a hardware component, suddenly ceasing to operating
or simply shutting down. In either scenario, the system will display the frozen
black and white screen with the languages text listed.

Normally a simple reboot of your Macbook Pro will resolve the issue, but in some cases it can take a specific procedure to correct and prevent a kernel panic from occurring again.

So here are a few procedures you can use to resolve and prevent further kernel panics:

• First, hold in your power button for approximately 10 seconds to do a hard shutdown, if your Macbook Pro is still turned on.

• Once your Mac is shutdown, you will need to perform what is called a PRAM reset (Parameter RAM)

• Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously .

• Turn on the Macbook Pro.
• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

• Now, hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the start up sound for the third time.

• Release the keys and allow the Macbook Pro to start up.

If your Macbook Pro starts up normally and does not go into another kernel panic, then you should be able to resume normal session activity on your Macbook Pro.

However, should the kernel panic return, then you can use an SMC Reset to correct the kernel panic:

-SMC RESET-
The System Management Controller is an integrated circuit (computer chip) that is usually on the logic board of your Mac portable.

It is responsible for power management of the computer. It controls back-lighting, hard disk spin down, sleep and wake, some charging aspects, trackpad control, and some input/output as it relates to the computer sleeping.

Shut down the computer.
• Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
• Remove the battery.
• Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
• Release the power button.
• Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
• Press the power button to turn on the computer.

Once again, when you are back up to your main desktop, resume your normal session activity.
At this point there should be no further issue a the kernel panic rearing its ugly head once again.

If it does, then you will need to take more intensive steps such as inserting your Mac OS X installation disc and booting up to that disc and running Mac OS X's Disk Utility, to repair the hard drive and permissions of the Mac OS X system you are using.

I will leave you with that procedure, in the event you need to run Disk Utility:

Insert your Mac OS X Startup disk
•Reboot your Mac
•At the Apple Chime, press the C key and hold it until you see a White screen, gray Apple and eventually a Spinning gear.
• Release the C key only after you see the Spinning gear.
•Mac will boot from the start up disk to the Installer environment
• From the Installer Menu bar, click Utilities > Disk Utility and open up Disk Utility application.
• Click on on the hard drive at the top of the window in the left sidebar and
• Select "Repair Disk"
**Let Disk Utilities run this repair the disk until completion
• At the end of this process, reboot your Macbook Pro
Return back to you main desktop and again, resume your normal session activities.

Any more kernel panics after this, you may want to consider taking your Macbook Pro in for service at your local Apple retail store Genius Bar or local Apple authorized service provide in your area.

I hope this information proves helpful for you.

The Nikon LS 2000 Film Scanner says the stage locking screw is still in place but it was removed 10 years ago when I bought it. I tried to put the negative film adapter in, it didn't work. Then I put the...

The lubricant has become sticky and is acting more like adhesive than lubricant. This is the most common cause of malfunction in the LS-2000 and LS-30 scanners. It's a quite curable condition.

Nikon LS-2000 and LS-30 film scanner service and repair is available. Check seller pjferrante2 on eBay. Scanner performance backed for 12 months. Very reasonable price.

Why my ibook cannot boot to desktop.but only stop at the grey apple display

What is happening is the mach kernel is hanging during bootup. This is likely caused by a kernel panic. Boot-time kernel panics are caused by the following things:
  1. A botched software update
  2. A badly behaving hardware device
  3. Flaky RAM memory.
  4. You are WAAAY too low on free disk space.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior

If you can make it this far, it is likely that your hard disk and the majority of your computer hardware are functioning correctly and your issue is software related.

Apple mac g4 laptop wont come on

Kernel panics are not what you have, you have a flashing question mark, it indicates there is a problem with either the hard drive or the operating system on the hard drive.

Kernel panics are different, the unit tries to start and then the unit crashes with a "kernel panic"

The Clamshell iBook 366 doesn't officially support Tiger, but can usually be installed using 'XPostFacto'. (You can get it here http://eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter/XPostFacto/
It's open source software but you still might find some aspects of Tiger don't work.

JFS224 change drive order

You need to get into bios to change the boot order. You can usually get into bios by tapping F12, esc, or whatever depending on who wrote your bios. Once you get into bios, you should see something like change boot order somewhere. If you don't know where it is then just keep scanning each page and you will find it. It will be called something "boot order". Use the directions on screen to change it to whatever drive you desire and you should be good to go. If you can't do it then write back and let me know.
