My Onkyo receiver works fine except that

My Onkyo HT510 6.1 receiver works fine except that increasingly it is becoming unresponsive to it's remote and to another universal remote. I've cleaned everything so I'm sure the signal is getting thru, changed the batteries etc. Receiver also works fine manually. Any advice?

Take an emery board to the battery contacts on the remote and lightly to the battery ends,at this low a voltage on these remotes any oxidation affects the voltage passed through the contacts to the remote even with new charged up batteries

Can you use an Onkyo RC-771M remote control to operate Onkyo receiver TX-SR502 ?

Unfortunately, the RC-771M remote doesn't control the TX-SR502. It will only work with these Onkyo models: TX-NR1008 and TX-NR808. The RC-567M is the one for the TX-SR502; replacement remotes that are exact replacements are still available from various places including Amazon.com .

Since the TX-SR502 was released in ~2004, that replacement remote probably won't control other devices that were released in 2004 or later. Onkyo changed its IR code programming before the TX-NR1008 was released in ~2010 and the RC-771M can't communicate with the older receiver. The manuals for the receivers listed above are still available from Onkyo on the product page under the Downloads tab.

I wish that I had better news for you.

Remote will no longer power on Onkyo HT-S3500. Once I turn it on manually, the rest of the functions work properly.

I just had this same issue. I tried to change the batteries for the factory remote that came with the Onkyo HT-S3500 (remote: RC-799M). Still no luck. It would not power on with the remote, despite the light flashing and the and all other remote function working. If I powered on the receiver manually, everything worked (except power on/off).
I just pushed a button on the remote labeled "REMOTE MODE RECEIVER" and viola, the remote now powers the device on and off and works just like usual. Not sure what the heck happened, but I would suggest pushing that button on your remote.

My Amplifier is in good working condition, except for the volume control has gone weird Using the remote, you can increase volume, but not decrease volume. On the unit, rotating the volume control...

Cleaning the contacts may help. The volume knob should pull off. Once its off use a non-flammable contact cleaning spray to clean the contacts behind the knob.

Electronics and automotive stores should have this.

Hello, the most used buttons can wear out over time. On/standby and volume are the ones that are used most often. I suggest purchasing a new remote. It is available at shoponkyo.com. Thank you, Onkyo USA

Remote doesn't operate reciever

Hello Fixya customer,

Thank you for your question.

Please determine if the "Audio" button is actually working.... after pressing the audio button, can you still control the DVD, if not then the remote has switched to the Onkyo. Although, this is not 100% conclusive, unless you have a 2nd remote to test the Onkyo with, it provides a sound basis to proceed.

Assuming the remote is transmitting and the IR receiver on the front of the Onkyo is not otherwise blocked, likely faults include the IR receiver, input to the Micro processor, and the Micro processor.

The most probable fault is the IR receiver.

Thank you for using Fixya, and if I can help you further, please let me know.

Onkyo remote won't control Samsung components.

I got an Onkyo RC-717M remote control. It is the remote that comes with the Onkyo TX-SR706 receiver. It is a learning remote. When i entered the cde for the Samsung Blu-Ray it did the same thing as the other remotes I got from Onkyo, the pause, next / previous track buttons wouldn't work for the Samsung BD-P3600. I used the learning function of the new remote and programmed it to work. It works ok now but it sure was a hassle to get it done. In fairness i should have called Onkyo support but their support hours don't match my schedule.
