Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Dryer smells like fire has wiring

Replace the high limit thermostat. The high limit safety thermostat is a back-up thermostat that will shut off the heating element if it detects a temperature above 200 degrees. The thermistor (temperature sensor) that is on the blower housing detects the temperature in the dryer. It is the component that helps the control regulate the operating temperature at around 150 degrees.
Here is a link to the part you need.
Here is a video to show you how to replace the thermostat.

I have a Estate Whirlpool model#TGD5740. Smells like smoke when running. Still drys with heat and runs fine. What would cause this

You could have a build up of lent inside the dryer which might have ignited. Dryer should be dissasembled and cleaned.
Could be that your motor is over heating.
Depends on what type of smell your smelling;.If its the motor over heating, motor would have to be replaced.
