There are many possible answers, we should narrow down the problem 1st. Make and Model of the scooter makes it easier to figure out your difficulties. Your brake maybe getting hung up and cause this if someone can check if the brake is getting hot when you slow down. That would mean your brake is the problem. If your batteries are loosing power and causing you to slow down that the batteries could be the issue. try my app to help you narrow down the problem. Scooter Doctor App
Sounds like the throttle is connected backwards. The parking brake maybe hanging up. if the scooter is run for 10 mins forward, then carefully check with your hand that the parking brake is warm and not hot. Hot indicates brake slowing you down and making the motor work too hard. For other answers to Scooter Problems goto my free app. Scooter Doctor App
hi what happening to the battery power indicator while this happens ?
if you are sure the batteries are okay , look at the connections to the rear axle, making sure they are a good clean connection, you be amazed the problems with those connectors...
1. Motor breaking down.. ( Resistance changing ), Brush less motor otherwise check the brushes...
2.Brake coming on so slowing the scooter down.
3.The output stage of the controller is breaking down....
hi, so would it be right to say you can still push it when you stop ? The brake simply stops the scooter from moving , it does not slow you down, the motor does that.
Does the brake click when it comes to rest ?, if the scooter has not been used for sometime or kept out in the cold it can start to seize, so spray some WD40 or contact cleaner would be best in the slot around the brake area now remember you just lubricated the brake so don't go near hills or road until you used it and you're sure the brake is working again.
I had this problem too. U need to twist on it and jam it until it turns off. Twist it back/forward. U can also pull in brake. The brake automaticaly deactivates motor. Hold brake until STOPPED then let go. The scooter will stay
Hi roybruce
Sounds exactly like a brake problem.
To check this run the scooter as far as it will go untill it shuts down or 10 minutes which ever occurs first.
Then being careful not to get burned touch very carefully with your finger the brake. Located at the end of your motor attached to the free wheel lever.
This could be very hot so be careful.
If the brake or motor is hot replace the brake. If the brake is cool to the touch you could have low voltage. Have your batteries load tested to make sure. Replace batteries if needed.
twin mommy I didn't tell you this but you can have someone remove the brake from the rear of the motor but keep it connected to the chair because it won't work if you take the brake off the scooter the controller looks for the brake connection and if it can't find it it will blink and not work Also remember that you will not have a brake and if you are in a hilly area the scooter can roll backwards or on a ramp it can roll backwards and cause injuries. Now you will use it like this only until you can order and install a new brake. If you feel uncomfortable then use as is and order a new brake for your scooter. Hope this helps
PCassels Check the brake located on the rear of the motor. If the brake is dragging on the motor housing it will cause heat and slow the scooter down. If you can, remove the brake from the motor but leave the wires connected. Tie the brake up so it won't fall and see if that makes a difference in speed and heat reduction. Don't overcharge the batteries Charge overnite or until the green light on the charger comes on indicating a full charge. Never charge more than 10 hours for this scooter. Now with the brake not on the motor the scooter will not have brakes so watch out on ramps and steep inclines. If it is only a few months old then it is still under warranty and you need to contact the provider that sold the scooter to get it repaired correctly Hope this helps
Hi. Could be a couple of faults. The throttle pot ( Wig Wag ) could be worn. While you are driving the machine, try moving the ends of the lever up or down slowly, ( not in and out as you usually do for driving ), and see if that makes the speed vary.
Another problem could be faulty battery or motor connectors. I have replaced or removed many battery connectors because of this. Also check battery or motor wirs where they connect to the controller.
If you feel unsure about checking the connectors, get a good serviceman to do it for you. Good luck. Neil.
Had a similar problem with my shoprider te888's there are 2 possible solutions that I have found.
1. dirt had been picked up in the pad that acts as a brake, causeing the motor to drag and speed up, found this after almost burning my hand on end of motor with brake. disassembling the brake and cleaning with an alchohol soultion fixed this one.
2. Loose wire to battery post, or corrosion on battery connectors can cause this too. found loose terminal on battery by tightening nut where wire attached.drove me nuts for days till I decided to tighten with wrench rather than finger tight... On my scooter it would slow down do to excessive current draw because of bad connection and controller would shutdown, which meant ubrut stop. Showed up mainly when climbing long grade up driveway.
hope this helps
