Foreign object stuck inside

When I run the washer I hear a loud noise (as if a marble or rock is inside the drum). During the fast spin cycle the noise is so loud that it is unbearable. I have emptied the washer and inspected the inside, plus taken off the top to see if I could see anything inside.

Does it spin when it makes this noise?

  • Anonymous Mar 07, 2008

Is the tub spinning freely? Are the clothes coming out spun properly?
Any noise at the end of the spin cycle? Any noise in agitation? Any
sign of a leak underneath of water or oil? You model number comes right
up in our system, so part look up will be no problem. Also, is the
unit vibrating? Let us know the answers to those questions so we can

If everything except the sound is normal then it Sounds like the spin bearing is on it's way out. The seals normally leak a little at first and then
the bearing begins to rust and the freight train rumbling begins only during the spins cycle.
In agitate, only the agitator shaft is turning and this bearing is not used during this cycle.
IT's a complete teardown to replace this part. The bearing normally come with the seals and
whatever else is needed to do a rebuild on the tub seal/bearing assembly.
IF you think you can do it, you can get the part number from the below site.

I have seen the agitator make noise like this before. Remove the plastic cap and then remove the nut. you may need a special tool for this. But if you can get it off pull up on the big paddle part on the outside and look for something loose or a broken piece of inner part of the agitator where it attaches to the shaft or the outside paddle part.

Loose tub weights are rare on this model but they cause a loud knocking noise which is often worse when the washing machine is reving up to spin and dying down from a spin (suspension problems are also often worse at this stafe too). It's not normally a metalic sound though.

If the noise is coming from the motor banging against the sides of the machine then it will make the washing machinemove when it happens. The whole machine may jump or move to one side. The motor often thumps the side of the washing machine on Hotpoint washers where the motor is fitted at the top of the tub and over to the right hand side. This is a daft place to fit a motor and only Hotpoint / Creda did it. I think they've eventually stopped now though.

It is normal to be able to push the drum to the side so that the motor hits the casing. If the suspension has gone, the tub should be twisted and leaning to one side more than the other, or it just could be very loose. It's difficult to check suspension if you don't know how it should feel.

If the noise is coming from the inner drum hitting the heating element or throwing an object like a £1 coin (trapped between the inner drum and the outer tub) around, then the washing machine will be stable but the noise would still be a horrible metalic knocking. This is one cause I suspect.

Have you check the pump, all front load washer drain before filling. If you have coins or foreign object inside pump the can be the cause of scraping noise. I would also check the tub for nails or object that can poke through and tub on the outer tub during rotation. Most of the time its a foreign object in the pump issue. Good luck..

Loud noise during rinse cycle

Hi

If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary. Also check for drum bearing failure if your washing machine is noisy on the spin cycle. Drum bearing failure is common when the bearing seals start allowing water to enter. You can take the belt off and spin the drum by hand, and if the drum rumbles, replace the bearings.

Turn the drum by hand and listen for loud noises. If the drum itself is split or the 'spider' is corroded, broken or has come apart from the back of the drum it will create a loud noise on every turn of the drum. (When the bearings have gone bad, the noise is constant the entire time the drum is spinning.)

Look for obvious dents and creases in the drum or look for coins or small objects stuck inside the tub underneath the drum when a horrendous noise is made while clothes are in the tub.

Clear the water pump from obstructions like coins or small objects when a noise occurs while the washing machine is emptying water.

Remove the sump hose and look for bra wires if you hear a light scraping noise when the drum is turned by hand. You can also check to make sure a wire isn't poking out of one of the holes in the drum. In this case, you can pull the wire out easily with pliers.

Take the belt off and run the motor alone if you hear a high pitched squealing noise to check for motor bearing damage or wear. If you still hear the noise without the belt, it's the motor bearing.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.

During the spin cycle the washing machine becomes VERY noisy, sounds like its off-balance, but happens EVERY time, even with very small loads. The whole unit doesn't move when it happens, just extremely...

During the spin cycle the drum moves at a higher RPM and so the counter weight of the clothes within can make the drum rotate eccentric or out of sync.
So check if the belt is loose on the motor, checck if the spindle is tight with friction or the drum assembly suspension is out of alignment.
You must check the reason with the following points to confirm the drum spinning making noise. check point of noise , is this on hitting the sides , or from the motor, any foreign objects or the drum spindle. But you are the judge with a first view. Use good lighting to look out and confirm the fault.

Maytag Epic Z Washer has object between drum and tub.

I had the same rattling during spin cycle of my Maytag 4000 series front loading washer. Noticed you could gently pull back on the rubber gasket between the tub and where the door seals. There was a quarter resting against the fixed ring the tub spins in. Problem solved. And I have further realized that long hair can build up in this same spot. But if you didn't know to pull back on the gasket you wouldn't see it. Good luck!

Whirlpool duet washer has rock, marble, or something stuck inside

as long as your sure its an item between the tub assy the baffles in the drum can be removed and item fished out. but ifsomething snapped on the rear of the drum you would need to replace it. the baffle part number is 8182233, its about $40 thinknin thats worth a try before 475. the lower acess panel could also be removed and the main tub to pump hose could be removed which would give you a 3in hole to look through and try to grab somethin. worth a try

Possible. First run your hand around the inside drum...be careful...sometimes there can be an object stuck in the holes and the extra vibration can set it off. common objects are bra wires and hair clips (sorry ladys its the truth) followed very closely by......(you guessed it ladys) Nails
