i have uninstalled & reinstalled the application but this did not fix the issue. can anyone please help me im desperate. im running windows XP many thanx, jo
Workaround. try insert instead of import save to widows instead your software is faulty and cleaning the disc maybe all that is required if not buy another disc yours might be scratched.

Administrator privileges are required to properly install the program on Windows® XP, Windows Vista®, Windows® 7 and Mac OS X for PrintMaster Platinum 2011 .
Using mouse, right click on the "setup" and Run as "Administrator"
printmaster 1 was for windows 98, ver 17 is for XP. it depends where your saved projects are. if they are on CD media then that is READ ONLY and they must first be transferred to a C:\ drive and their ATTRIBUTES for each and every file/folder of the project need to have the Read Only attribute removed. you can do that via CMD.exe eg if your project was inside a folder called c:\myprojects\????? then you would type in ATTRIB/S c:\myprojects\*.* -R then your projects might be valid as they could be UPDATED/Altered by the new version but thats just a guess.
Windows 7 has a compatibility wizard that you can use to help install it. Go to start, control panel, and then type in troubleshooter in the search box. Under programs, click "run programs for other versions of windows." Follow those instructions. If you need to browse to the setup file on the disc, do so. If that does not work, you can go to Broderbund's web site. They have a compatibility update for Gold 17 on their website. Unfortunately it is for Vista, but it still might help you with the compatibility issue encore .
Check out this link at e-bay. This is the only place I could find for you. They have 2 days left on the auction at $6.25. Just copy and paste into your browser.
Printmaster Platinum downloaded and installed reasonably well
on my Gateway 6mb RAM 500MG HDD running Vista Home
Premium. The 26.5MB patch seemed to install okay. In trying
to open the app I got the folloiwing: "Error opening HKLM with
ALL ACCESS - setting up registry" I uninstalled--completely--
and the reinstall worked the same way with the same Error Message.
The install followed the instructions that came with the patch
via msconfig. I can get the app to run with a lot of time-consuming
effort using Task Manager. Once opened it seems to work fine.
It might be a good idea to offer a definition for HKLM, which
is to say IHABT. Oh, yeah, I HAD A ***** OF A TIME.
Presumably this is a registry entry or dll. Please shed some
light on this. I have used this program for years and have a
host of saved projects. PrintMaster Gold worked much better
but I paid a bunch of money for Platinum (knowing full well
it was an older edition).

Custom Paper Wizard
PrintMaster® 17 Gold and Platinum include a Custom Paper Wizard that allows you to add new or unsupported paper stock to PrintMaster® for printing labels, stickers, envelopes, half-fold greeting cards, note cards, business cards and postcards. The remainder of this note describes how to use the Custom Paper Wizard.
Follow the procedure below to add a new or unsupported paper stock to PrintMaster® 17 Gold or Platinum using the Custom Paper Wizard.
NOTE: The options that appear in the Custom Paper Wizard vary depending on the project type for which you are creating new paper stock.
In the PrintMaster® Design Workspace, click Tools from the menu bar, select Custom Paper Wizard and click New Custom Paper. The Custom Paper Wizard window will open.
In the Select Stock Type: list box, select the appropriate project type (Label, Sticker, Business Card, Envelope, 1/2-Fold Greeting Card, Note Card or Postcard) and click Next.
If creating a Label or Sticker paper stock, select the label type. An example of the selected label type will appear on the right.
Click Next.
In the screen that appears, select the similar stock type and enter the paper height, width and margins (if instructed to do so).
NOTE: The Example box at the bottom of the Custom Paper Wizard window will explain what information is needed for the selected field (e.g., Paper Width, Left Margin, etc.) with both text and a diagram. The Example box on the left side of the Custom Paper Wizard window will show an example of the new paper stock as the fields are completed.
Depending on the paper stock, the "Contains mid-page perforation" box may be active. If the paper stock that is added has a mid-page perforation, click once in the empty box to check it.
Enter a Name for the new paper stock in the Name of stock: field and click Next. This name will identify the added stock type and will appear when creating a new project (e.g., Label, 1/2-Fold Greeting Card, etc.).
NOTE: If adding a new paper stock for an Envelope project type, click Finish. A message will appear indicating that the new stock has been added. Click OK. The new envelope paper stock can be used when creating a new Envelope project.
The next screen or screens that show will depend on the project type for which the new paper stock is added. Enter the needed information and click Finish. A message will appear stating that the new paper stock has been added.
Click OK.
To access the new paper stock, create a new project that uses the stock type (Label, 1/2-Fold Greeting Card, etc.) and select the name of the new stock entered in Step 7 (above) from the available stock list.
