Scale may need to be calibrated or you may have something causing the scale to be unstable or something could be binding

  • Anonymous Nov 29, 2010

I got an ERR message and now the scale doesn’t work. What should I do?

The following reset procedure is used when the scale shows an err2, err, 0.0, inaccurate weight, or some other unusual error.

    1. Remove the battery from the scale.
    2. Sit the scale on a hard surface floor.
    3. Step up onto the scale, stand still for about 5 seconds and step off the scale.
    4. Re-install your battery.
    5. Place the scale back on a hard surface floor.
    6. With one foot only, place just enough weight on the scale for the display shows zero’s or dashes. Once you see zeros or dashes remove your foot.
    7. Wait for the scale to turn off again.
    8. Step up onto the scale for a weight.

If the reset is successful, you should receive a weight right away. If you continue to receive one of the error messages above please call our Customer Service department or contact us via email. You can also try the reset procedure a 2nd time. Sometimes the reset procedure will work the second time.

My etekcity scale is showing a C shape on the screen after weighing something - what does that mean?

A "C" will appear during the first weighing, this is a self-calibrating feature on some scales. It means the scale is re-calibrating to zero. Please re-weigh for accurate reading. Scale will also re-calibrate after every battery replacement.

I put new batteries in my scale and it won't turn on

Check the old batteries to see if they work in a different devise. If they do than your scale is not working. Also make sure the batteries are in properly. (Match the. - , + symbols up)

When weighing item, I get dashes across screen. I put a new battery in and just got a blank screen.

Usually this indicates weight is either under the minimum tolerance or over the maximum tolerance!

Salter scales weighing more than double the weight

Sounds silly but check the scales for a Kilogram or Pounds switch. its usually under the scales and is a sliding switch. It should tell you on the display if you are weighing in pounds or kilos.

Model 9114 salter scale shows Lo. I have changed the batteries but it still only shows Lo.

I had the same problem and, suspecting that the metal contacts weren't making proper contact with the batteries, I used a long nosed pliers to gently bend all ten contacts towards to the batteries (there are eight small tabs in the battery compartment, and two on the battery cover). If you don't have a long nosed pliers a small screwdriver should do it if you held the fixed part of each set of contacts so it doesn't detach during the process.
Unfortunately, it worked, but only for one weigh, and then it reverted to "Lo". This happened twice, so I telephoned the Salter Customer Service Helpline (01732 360783) who recommended a reset, which is done by removing the batteries, standing on the scale for 20 seconds, and replacing the batteries. That also only worked for one weigh, so they are looking into it further and I'll post the results here, but in the meantime I hope one of the above solutions will work for others.

Operating instructions for Volt -100 pocket scale

If you don't have the measured weights that sometimes come with scales or can be purchased individually, I'd recommend using a United States nickel/5 cent coin. They are supposedly an exact 5 g's each, and a Volt-100 scale requires 100 g's for recalibration. Therefore, you can recalibrate your scale using 20 nickels. I also use a Volt-100 and so far this has worked for me exactly; the most it's ever been off is .02 g, which is basically nothing.
What you do is remove your batteries, (I'd replace them with brand new ones if you have the option) then place the scale on a completely smooth, perfectly level, flat surface. Power the scale on, make sure it is reading 0.00, hold the M (mode) button until CAL comes on the screen, release the button for a quick second, then press it again one more time (quickly, don't hold this time), and then wait until "100.00 g" is flashing on the screen. Then you're going to place your 20 nickels on the scale as smoothly and with as little jostling or movement as possible. After a moment, the screen should read out "PASS". You then power the scale off (don't weigh anything before turning it off as it can possibly adjust the calibration you just set or weigh out heavily or light) and to test out your newly calibrated scale, turn it back on and weigh one nickel. It should be exactly 5 g's, with no more than a .02 digression in either direction if done properly. Good luck!

When I weighed myself 4 times in a row today it read 4 different weights. Is the battery wearing out? What do you think.

hello. Definitely change the battery. Also make sure the scale is on a hard surface, not carpet.

Wii fit weighin too light!

I would suggest that you ensure that the board is calibrated properly and that you don't step on it until directed to do so. I'm sure you're already doing this, because it won't let you go on without doing so.

The other solution I would offer is to change the batteries in the unit, and ensure that you are setting the Balance Board on a smooth, sturdy, and flat surface. If you are on shag carpet, it will not function properly. If you have average carpet, try using the little adapters that attach to the feet.

Remember that for the purposes of this program, the exact weight isn't what is most important, but relative weight. Any time you are tracking weight loss, be sure to mark your progress using the same scale. If you chart the Wii vs traditional scales, you should notice that the decrease is the same, regardless of what your starting point may happen to be.

Good luck!
