HP G85 All says remove and check color cartridge and prints only green/blue color

I have a HP G85 all in one and there is a message saying Remove And Check Color Cartridge. It will print color pictures but they come out in all green/blue mixed color. No other colors print. I cleaned both cartridges and replaced them and followed the instructions in the fix your own printer site. Wondering if you could send a respose to [email protected]

Thanks
Steve

Yes, same problem. Trouble is that removing, cleaning and replacing the cartridge just brings up the same message, and the machine stalls there and will not function to print anything - even a test sheet. Maddening!

It would be nice if the machine allowed you to say "OK" and print regardless - even in black.

Is there a way to carry on, using just the black cartridge - because that's the one I usually use? I hardly use the color cartridge, and would not expect it to be out of ink yet, since it was replaced relatively recently. It is more likely that the black is low or empty - but I cannot tell! Help - if you can.

    Thanks,

    Paul Clarke

I have the same frustrating problem! HP, can't make ****. I tried the solution that ianisme suggested but on the turn back on with the on/off button pressed, nothing happened. Any other suggestions? (Ink cartridges are nearly full and were working earlier)

Just to add, this problem will suddenly appear. Does not have to be tempted, lured or asked to appear, it just randomly does

This is a known issue on this machine. What I do is open the printer as if replacing the cartridge and allow the cartridge holder to move to the exchange position. Then I unplug the power cable from the back and close the printer again. Keeping your finger on the power button, plug in the power cable again. Keep the button pressed for about 10 seconds, allowing the error flag to reset. Switch on again and wait for the initialise to finsh. It sometimes takes another 5 minutes for the message to disappear but it should go eventually.

Just to clarify this. When you plug in the power with the switch depressed for 10 seconds, nothing will appear to happen. Rest assured it is though. There is a software flag that needs to be reset and this procedure will do that. After you do this, switch on the printer as normal. It may take a few minutes before the error code clears, but it should do if you are patient.

The problem is dirty connectors on the back of the ink cartridge. Remove cartridge and take some fine steel wool to the contacts on the back of the cartridge. Also take a cloth with alcohol and clean the internal connectors inside the print mechanism that makes contact with these cartridge contacts. Works fine for me.

It sounds like your cartridge is out of yellow or red ink. Usually, if a cartridge doesn't print correctly the problem lies with the cartridge itself. Try another (new) cartridge. Also, I've had bad results using refilled cartridges. I will only use genuine HP ink cartridges. Have you tried printing a test page that you do after a cartridge alignment?

My office jet G85 won't print. No error messages appear,it has a new color cartridge,it copies, but won't print from my computer.

If it copies ok, then the issue is either the way it is cabled to computer or the print driver software settings on pc.... How is it connected via USB? Check port and correct driver is in windows/control panel/printers. Reinstall.

HP G85 "insert cartridge" when there is one--not printing

You cartridge might have been malfunctioning, you need to replace the cartridge, this happens when you refill the cartridge. It should be refilled very carefully and you mustn't touch the print head, it very delicate and sensitive. In fact, no inkjet cartridge should be refilled, but since the price is high, this things happens, i don't know why they impose this. If they sell them on cheap price, it would be better for their business and for consumers. You can try updating the driver, but i am sure this isn't the problem, anyway here's the link to your driver, but right after opening this page, select the operating system type you are using.. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=19543&lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=30374&taskId=135 Good luck.

Hi do you recomend i buy a second hand hpg85 seller says its in perfect working condition. My concern is: how old is this machine and are the parts still available should i require them.On offer is also a...

I bought my G85xi in 2000 from Costco. I have used it with care & have had only a few problems with it (bad cartridge once, dried out cartridge once, bad FAX board which was replaced under warranty). The quality of the printing, etc is excellent. I've been using the large color #78A cartridge (38 ml.) from Costco which costs about $53. A pack of 2 black #45 cartridges is about the same ($52) (42 ml.)
I also bought a slightly used G85 from a flea market (mainly for back-up parts). I have an hp 6110 all-in-one bought in 2005 which is better than the models produced today, but not as rugged as the G85. Also, HP has rigged the newer models (including my 6110) so that you can't do any printing if the cartridge is determined to be low in ink. to make matters worse, they don't tell you which cartridge is low - only give a message to "remove & relace the cartridges".

Hp psc2410xi

The following error message appears on the color graphics display after you insert a cartridge: Remove and Check Print Cartridges . The printer will not print. The message does not specify which cartridge has caused the error. Solution This error message indicates that the printer cannot determine which cartridge is causing the error. Follow the steps below to solve the problem.
  1. Remove the color cartridge from the left stall (which has a blue latch) and refasten the latch. Leave the other cartridge in place.
  2. Close the printer, wait 10 to 15 seconds, then look at the LCD display.
    • If the LCD display reads Insert Color Cartridge in Left Stall , the color cartridge may be causing the problem. Follow the steps below:
      1. Clean the color cartridge contacts.
      2. Reinsert the color cartridge into the carriage and close the blue latch.
      3. Close the printer and wait 10 to 15 seconds.
      4. If the LCD display reads Remove and Check Print Cartridges , replace the color cartridge.
    OR
    • If the LCD display reads Remove and Check Print Cartridges , follow the steps below:
      1. Reinsert the color cartridge.
      2. Remove the black or photo cartridge, depending on which one is installed in the right stall. The right stall has the gray latch. Be sure to refasten the latch on the empty stall.
      3. Clean the black or photo cartridge contacts.
      4. Reinsert the black or photo cartridge.
      5. Close the printer and wait 10 to 15 seconds.
      6. If the LCD display reads Remove and Check Print Cartridges , replace the black or photo cartridge.

  1. Remove and then reinsert the cartridge indicated in the error message.
  2. If the error is still displayed, clean the contacts.
    1. If the error message is Error. Remove and Check Black or Photo Cartridge , the following steps may help:
    1. Remove both cartridges, lower the latches, and close the printer access door.
    2. Turn off the unit by pressing the On button on the front panel. Wait for the printer to completely shut down.
    3. Turn the printer back on by pressing the On button.
    4. When the message display reads Insert Print Cartridges , open the access door and replace the cartridges.
    1. If neither of the steps above fixed the problem, either the cartridge or the printer is faulty

    Alignment problems

Here's the deal with the cartridge alignment page....the machine will spit out a series of black lines mixed with yellow ink and at the beginning of each of these lines is a "Green" check mark. The carriage moves back and forth over these lines and green check marks and reads them by use of what is called a "spot sensor" that resides on the right side of the carriage assembly. This is usually noticed by the blue ray of light that shines out of it. So if you are getting an alignment failure one of two things is happening....1)You've have got a bad cartridge (usually the color) and it is not laying down the right colors, specifically the green check mark or 2)You've got a bad spot sensor...even though it may still be shining the blue light, the sensor board can't process the information. Its an easy fix either way.

Remove and Check Color Cartridge message

Just had the same problem on my G85. Did the cleaning of color contacts, the powering on and off, and the cleaning and aligning of heads to no avail. Last resort went to HP website (why is that always last resort?) and saw that sometimes the circuits confuse color and black cartridge problems. Cleaned black cartridge - problem cleared. Coincidence? Maybe. But maybe not.

    Printer Cartridges

Since this is an all-in-one. It could be any of the following: A software glitch since these are software driven. Check HP for updates. A clogged nozzle on the cartridge- try cleaning the cartridge print nozzle with a foam tip swap or coffee filter soaked with ink jet cleaner or 90% isopropyl alcohol. Try a different cartridge. Try cleaning the contacts. Try using the HP image zone software. Go to Setup, Tools, and Clean print cartridge. Worst case scenario bad flex cable or board.
