    Try:
1.Set the drive to Share on the XP computer
    Or
2.save all files you want to keep on xp computer, then put a MBR on external drive. (Should work between computers this way)
    OR
3 . Save all files on xp computer,
Format external drive on xp computer, connect to new pc.

Windows vista (MY opinion) is junk . Keep xp or upgrade to windows 7 be my advice.

You need to stop using Vista as Microsoft has not supported it since 2014. OK to use Vista for a while after 2014 because Windows Update still gave security updates for other Windows products (Word, Works, etc.). But now, Windows Update for Vista will not work anymore for anything. At least switch to Windows 7 as Microsoft will probably support it until 2020.

SOURCE: power on NetDisk

try connecting the drive to a different system and see if that works.Incase it workd on another system than reinstall the USB drivers by going into the device manager. Also you could try different USB cords as there could be an issue with that as well.

SOURCE: win 7 64 bit freeze

I have the same problem. I don't have the right solution but I discovered a workaround.
The problem occurs everytime when I install a windows 7 update.
My work around:

  1. When Windows determines an update I disable the NDAS service with msconfig
  2. The update is installed without the NDAS service operational.
  3. After update I enable the NDAS service with msconfig
  4. I restart my computer. Then it freezes.
  5. After a hard reset, the computer restarts in Safe modus. I restart my computer and my computer works, till the next windows 7 update. Then I start again van 1.
Very suboptimal, but it works.

The same for mine external HD

My hard drive was dead and wasn't recognized by the computer, it didn't even start, just a few clicking noises, which according to some of the experiences is the same as a DEAD Hardisk. Anyways, as I read that sometimes this happens as a result of a hit, well, I wacked my HD as a last hope for it to recover its "memory" (as in the movies) and believe me or not, it worked! I don't know if this might help yours, but it saved mine!
The way I did it was like this: I started the pc and when the HD started to run and I heard a couple of clicks, I hit it against the table while in vertical position (assuming that the arm of the HD might slightly move better that way) one time, and then when the spinning and the first click was heard agin I hit again. After that I heard the typical searching sound of a HD, and you can imagine I started to pray that what I heard wasn't my anxiety sound (if it has any). Now I am a firm believer in the old trick of whacking the old TV to get the vital signal back!
Good luck to you too!

Can't list files Listing under MyComputer says drive is not formated but I know I have files on there from previous use so I should be able to see a list of them Using an Ximeta NetDisk NDAS external 80GB...

Try to Run scandisk to repair the drive. Also check for virus in your computer due to which you are facing this issue. Clean the virus from any antivirus tool with latest virus defination will solve your problem.

Need a power cord

Hi Tatearian,

Ximeta, like many external drive manufacturers use a fairly custom AC adapter. Finding a replacement is not only difficult but often costs more than the enclosures are worth.

The simplest and cheapest thing to do is go to your local PC shop, ask the technicians there to remove the hard drive from the enclosure and put it in a new one. This won't cost any more than buying a replacement adapter and will be much simpler to do.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Pc never see external HD

Is it that your PC doesn't reconize the ex. Hard drive? Or aryou unable to locate it once the HD is connected to your computer? Go to my computer and the external hard drive should be displayed below the other hard drives. If it is there, right click on it and rename it, like BOB's 500GB, or something. Also create a shortcut on your desktop to locate it easier next time.

Can usb substitute for the ethernet connection?

Perhaps buy one on eBay (possibly $60) and pull it's interface circuit board, to replace your bad one:
