Problem w/ metal plate over bobbin

I have a Singer Sewing Machine. Model is CG-500/550.. The metal plate covering the bobbin, keeps popping up when I sew anything....I took the two little screws holding that little surrounding the bobbin holder off the other day, and lost one screw...but I did put two screws back into it. Now the plate won't stay down. I've broken two needles already trying to sew. I don't know what else to do. I worked fine before I looked into that little hole, now it has a problem...what can I do?

Try and find the screw dude... either that or try taping it down i know it's not an ideal solution but it's a quick fix until you can replace the screw

There are no screws. Thats why I think it simply should slide into the groove.

How do you open the bobbin compartment on a Singer 4411

Here are the steps to open the bobbin compartment on a Singer 4411 sewing machine:
  1. Turn off the sewing machine and unplug it from the power outlet.
  2. Locate the bobbin compartment on the front side of the machine, below the needle plate.
  3. Hold the handwheel on the right side of the machine with your right hand and turn it towards you (counterclockwise) until the needle is at its highest position.
  4. Slide the bobbin cover release button, located to the right of the bobbin compartment, to the right and hold it there.
  5. The bobbin cover should now pop open. Gently pull it towards you to fully open the compartment.
To close the bobbin compartment, simply push the bobbin cover back into place until it clicks and locks into position.

Model CG-550. Needle hits a bottom plate. All thread and bobbin removed. Took the feed cover off. Do not see the problem.

Possible bent or wrong needle. If ok, check the zig-zag mechanism to see if it has come uncoupled from the needle mechanism. Good luck!

On the right of the black bobbin case there are two screws, you can slacken those screws off and move the bobbin case nearer to the guard leaving enough room for the thread to pass through, if the needle is hitting the bottom you may need to retime the machine.

METAL PLATE COVERING BOBBIN WON'T STAY DOWN

Take it apart again and compare the original screw with the one you substituted. If they are not the same size, you will need to get one that matches the original.

Re-place the needle plate and when firmly in place, put the screws back in.

SINGER CG 550

If the plate is moving up and down eithetr the teth are set far too high pushing the plate up or the teeth are set too far forward, I would go for the first, if the teeth are coming up well above the slot they are too high, they should be set so that when you look alongside the plate you can just see the top of the teeth, you can adjust the teeth by adjusting the screws underneath the machine where the teeth are.

unscrew the black plate that holds in the bobbin case and move it over to the left just a little bit, but make sure there is still clearance between the lower right corner of the case and the plate. The case should be able to wiggle a little, but not so loose it can pop out..
