Question about Kenmore 13.7 cu. ft. / 388 liter Upright Freezer 23424

1 Answer

We have an upright Kenmore Frost Free freezer that is stored in an unheated space at our house. Each spring, it seems that the freezer stops working, and teh compressor never turns on. Temp inside freezer is rising, is now about 40 degrees on top, and around 20 degrees at bottom of freezer. Any thoughts or suggestions?? I wondered if the rising temps outside is causing the freezer to get confused, or is there an actual problem that we need to have fixed??

I think you allow fresh air to flow in the compressor side or try and get a refrigerator fan for it.

Freezer in unheated/unairconditioned garage it stays cold in winter time but it is not freezing when the temperature is hot in the garage

The first thing is to find out if there is a fan that runs next to the compressor. If not then in the summer the machine is overheating and passing the heat up to the machine itself thawing or preventing the freezer from operation properly

Whining sound from motor on Frigidaire upright freezer

Hi: It sounds like you bought a frost free freezer as it has a fan. The fan will come on to circulate the air. It will not necessarly run continuosly. The noise is most likely coming from the fan. I sold Frigidaire freezers for years and they are noisy compared to a refridgerator. If you think it is louder than it was when you bought it, I would replace the circulating fan. Also look at the back wall for frost as it could be a bad defrost heater blocking it with ice. Most likely just the fan though. Since it's in a detached garage, and you won't have to put up with the noise inside your house, it could run a while before failing. The fact it's getting cold is a very good sign. Also as you asked 2'nd, a freezer is ok in an unheated garage. Don't put a refrigerator in there. Unless It is a Whirlpoll Gladiator that is designed for such applications. Use www.searspartsdirect.com to find out where the fan is if you feel it is necessary to replace it. Its not a tough job if you are handy. Their shipping is expensive so you might want to buy it locally.

Won't freeze

Is the compressor running the whole time? If so may have a problem with a refridgerant leak....check the compressor in the rear of unit, feel if its hot....may be as simple as a relay.

Freezer making noise

MY KENMORE UPRIGHT 20.6 CF FREEZER IS MAKING HARMONIC METALLIC BUZZING NOISES. I TRACED THE SOUND TO THE MIDDLE OF THE BACK PANEL. SEEMS LIKE A METAL FREON HOSE OR SOMETHING IS VIBRATING AND HITTING THAT BACK PANEL, BECAUSE IF I PRESS ON THE BACK PANEL THE SOUND GETS WORSE.

MAYBE A MOTOR IS BEHIND THE PANEL, BUT THERE IS NO WAY TO REMOVE IT AND FIND OUT SINCE IT IS PLACED IN A LIP MADE BY THE SIDES AND TOP, AND THEN FOAM OF SOME SORT IS FORCED INTO A SMALL HOLE TAPED OVER IN THE BACK. TO FILL THE SPACE OR INSULATE. HOW CAN I FIX IT? I DON'T THINK I CAN, BUT AT LEAST I KNOW WHERE IT IS COMING FROM.
