Is the suction low or ok at the vacuum without the hose attached? If it is ok, then there is a clog in the hose. If it isn't, then check filters, is the speed variable, is the contol set too low. Could be a bad motor, running too slow.

I just replaced the bag (used recommended Miele bag). When I turned on the machine the red "bag full" indicator comes on and the suction seems poor. I tried reinserting bag. ?

Good afternoon Kristen.

Vacuum cleaners usually pop the 'bag full' indicator when they lose suction due to the load of dirt in the bag impeding the motor pulling air through.

If you are still getting the indicator with a new bag, and already did the prudent re-seating of the bag, the next thing is likely a clog or blockage elsewhere in the vacuum. You don't specify the model, so I can't be too specific.

Safety first. Please please please make sure the unit is unplugged before you start disassembling.

As you are able, detach hoses, look in the back of the brush unit, see if there's a blockage. Wads of crumpled paper are particularly good at wedging themselves into corrugated flex lines. Depending on location, I've found that a wire coat hanger, bent into marshmallow-roaster configuration, with the old hook bent with some pliers into a long straight section with a small half-loop at the end, can be a good probe for the long sections of tube to see if it runs into anything, and then perhaps hook it and pull it out. Be careful if you do this to not hook the tubing walls and tear them.

Hoping this helps!

My miele has no suction and i changed the bags

99% of the time you can fix this problem with a new filter i have put the link in for the filter for your vacuum cleaner if you have changed the filter in the last 3 months then you might have a blocked hose check the hose first then get yourself a new filter

I am not getting strong enough suction in my vacuum. I have changed the bag. What else do I need to do or look for?

Check all the pipes, fittings and elbows for blockages or clogging. Check that the outlet is clear and that the normal airflow is coming out of it.

Dust bag was full and have changed it but not getting proper suction since bag change - why?

The extension tube is probably blocked. Check for suction with all the tubes off - if there is suction now then the tubes are blocked - be carefull not to damage them if you poke things in the unblock them.

No suction

well, it actually sounds like there is a blockage. Try removing your hose and dropping something through it, like a quqrter. If it comes through, no clog. If it is clogged, I believe that machine has a blower on the upper part of the cleaner (maybe in the bag compartment towards the top. You can take out the filter holder and plug the hose in there and run the unit . Does the blockage come out? If not, Try shaking the hose, or you can put a stiff wire in it to try to free it. Do not run water through it. If there is no blockage at all, then you will probably need to take it to a service center. But I am pretty confident that we are looking at a clog situation. Let me know if this fixesya! Thanks, Rene (vacuum Doctor)

Miele white star canister vacuum - won't turn on, but isn't clogged

Miele S251i Plus Bagged Canister Vacuum
Miele white star canister vacuum - won't turn on,...
Hi,

I have the above canister vac, which after my son tried to vac the stairs, it rolled down the stairs on him, but still worked, after turned off/on. Then after turned off maybe 10-15 mins., stopped working when we tried the switch. My father in law is our fix it guy, but still having a problem with the switch. Is there a wiring guide we could look at?

Thank you!

ALevy

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
You can try to call the factory for the Miele S251i schematics / wiring diagram @ the phone number and website listed below or I put a few pieces of information listed below that might help.
1. The vacuum cleaner switches off automatically
A temperature limiter switches the vacuum cleaner off automatically if it gets too hot. Some models have a warning light (triangle) which comes on to indicate that it has overheated. Allow the appliance to cool down for approx. 30 mins. and remove any blockages to the air path.
2. The "Change dustbag" indicator stays on even when a new bag has been inserted
To ensure the dustbag change indicator gives a correct reading, lift the floor nozzle or power head off the floor slightly to prevent the vacuum created in the suction tube from influencing the reading.
3. The exhaust filter indicator is red
Change the exhaust filter and then press "Reset" to switch off the indicator light.
