We've hooked up the tv - all channels are coming in but there is a 1 1/2 inch black border around the picture. We got all the channels without having to use a code for the remote control. Is the border there because we did NOT use a code? And if we do need a code, what is the code for an Insignia RC-304 remote control? Our provider is Bright House.

Hi,
if you mean the left and right sides of screen, look for a button on remote might be labeled several things, like picture size, aspect etc.. the borders pop up when you go to a non high def channel. some chs put borders all around the picture in those cases you won't be able to get rid of those.
I have a large black square obscuring the picture. You can see the picture in 1 inch border around the black square. If I reset the input switch, the black square disappears for about one second (the picture is momentarily perfect) and the black square appears again. It is not the cable box because I wired the cable directly into the tv. The same thing happens when I try to play a DVD. Any insights????

Picture is not centered on monitor leaving a 2 1/2 inch; black border on Philips LCD By dmorrow54 on Nov 13, 2007 Again, nothing in manual for Philips LCD will correct the fact that the picture in HD-D mode will not center. The picture runs off the monitor on the left (facing the monitor) with a 2 1/2" black border on the right (facing the monitor). Using the format button on the remote of directional arrows will not correct the issue. The wide-screen/ full-screen function with format does nothing. Moving into TV mode, the format function works to display screen in several ways 4:3, 19:2, super-zoom, wide-screen, full-screen. Help, please. posted 3 years ago
I have a Philips 30 inch LCD and solved the problem by using the circular arrow button on the TV remote. Pointing it at the TV and clicking "right" (3 o'clock on the button), the picture moved right. Same thing on for "left". Worked for me. Add a comment

WOW! It works!! The picture on my Magnavox (aka Philips) 37MF321D had shifted to the right. I figured I had a big repair bill coming up soon. But hey! Just used the TV remote as described by "Guest', and re-centered the picture to the left. Wallah! Thanks ""Guest" whomever you are! Reply

is there a button labeled picture? if so press it (you might have to press it twice before it steps to a new aspect ratio, then once for every different aspect ratio until you get the one you like.

If a black box appears on the screen, and a small amount of the picture is visible around the border, it means that your closed captions are on and set to TEXT. Go back into the menu, navigate to the closed captions page and set the captions to OFF.
Check the resolution settings on your cable box, you may have to call your cable provider to find out how to get into the settings menu, there is a stretch function in the settings that should make all the lower channels auto fit your screen, also see if there's a p=size button on your remote control, try pushing that when on the channels that have sidebars.
