Stk392-120 replacement Before I damage something, could someone give me a quick idea how to replace the STK392-120's. How do you remove the old ones from the heat sink and replace the new ones? Thanks for any input.

The Convergence chips it dead again,might even burn somethings else in ur tv now?Never replaced anythings more or less tolerances in electronics or machanicals equipments only same parts same tolerances.

There are two of these STKS on the board. I know because I had someone come and replace them about two years ago and now they need to be replaced again. Our TV is on constantly!
I'm glad that I watched him so I can do it myself this time.
You need what is called a "Solder ******" Heat the solder points on the board.. then push the S.S. on to remove the solder from it.
Remove the chip.. replace and re solder.
I've been told that if you're gonna replace one.. you might as well go ahead and replace both of them, or you'll be back behind the set in a matter of months.

Use the STK180s they are the best the 110s do not hold up the leggs fall off after connducting to much heat.These ICs must be solder in see if you can find someone who can solder to remove old ICs and reinstall new ones you will also need white silicon heat sink to put on back of ICs as well.

The color has gone crazy on you because your convergence IC's have gone bad.
These IC's operate at a very high temp, and usually only last 4-5 years. 
If you remove the back of the set, you will want to look for the BIGGEST heatsink in there, on that heatsink, you will see 2 lage IC's , probably STK392-040, or STK392-120's or something close...regardless - you can go on ebay to order the new ones, but MAKE SURE they are Genuine SANYO IC's and not counterfiet cheapies. the cheap ones may only last 2 months..
You will also need some "Heat transfer paste" - you can pick this up at radio shack.
Once you remove the old IC's, test all the large resistors near them.. pull one side of the resistor out of the board so you can check it out of circuit. they will usually have the value in Ohms, printed directly on the resistor, but you may have to use the resistor color code to find out what value they are....However, usually if there is any damage, the resistor will look like it has been HOT or fried. replace the IC's and any bad resistors, and you should be good to go.
If after replacing the IC's and any defective resistors, the convergence is still bad, make sure to use a multimeter to check ALL fuses on the boards, --- sometimes when the IC's go, they will take out a fuse to the convergence power supply. If you find any bad fuses, replace them accordingly!

It sounds like your may need to replaced your convergence ic's loc# ic7001 and ic7002 stk392-110. That should take care of your alignment problem.

Just put something under the connector (like a screwdriver)and lift up....they are very sturdy and I have never had one break for me.

The Toshiba 43H70 has two RGB driver chips (p/n: STK392-110) responsible for aligning the RGB colors, one of them went bad. Instead of throwing the TV away, I decided to try and replace them, and fix the TV. I did, and it works great! I ordered two STK392-110?s online from Electronix.com, it cost about $18 including shipping. Each STK392-110 is about 2? in length, and 1.5? in height, and is an 18 pin device. The tools I used were all purchased at Radio Shack, and are: a soldering iron with a stand, solder, de-soldering tool, thermal grease, and a digital camera (yes, a digital camera). First, make sure the TV is unplugged! On the back of the TV, take the back wooden cover off. You?ll see a bunch of wires going everywhere, a power PCB board (probably brown), and a green PCB system board. The two STK392-110?s are on the green PCB system board attached to two big heatsinks. You will have to remove the green PCB system board to get to the two STK392-110?s and replace them, there?s no way around it. To remove the system board, you?ll have to remove the board with all the video jacks on it, and will have to disconnect all the wires going to the system board, as well as disconnect the power board from the system board. The power board and system board lie right next to each other, and are connected by two connectors. You have to be careful with those two connectors, and I used a small screwdriver, got it between the mating connector, and gently pried it open. It?s like an old mechanical switch, but instead of one contact, there are several. While taking everything apart, this is wear the digital camera comes in, take a picture of everything you disconnect and remove, and play the pictures backward so you know how and where to put everything back together. The system board is held down by several screws that will need to be removed. Once the system board is removed, you can see the two STK392-110 driver chips, however, you will have to remove several vertical boards and heatsinks to get to them freely. The STK392-110?s are attached to two heatsinks by two screws each. The heatsinks are soldered on the system board, so you?ll have to desolder them to remove them. Once you have them removed, Now that the old STK392-110?s are freely accessible, go ahead and use a pair of wire cutters, and cut them off at the leads (the 18 pins). Now desolder the 36 pins left in the board. Use the desoldering tool to get as much solder out of each hole so you can easily put the new STK392-110?s back in. (Make sure you put them in the same way as the old ones!) Put the two STK392-110?s into the holes, put the thermal grease on the metal side of the STK392-110, then attach the heatsinks to them, line up the two mounting screws that hold the STK392-110 to the heatsink, and start soldering everything back together. Make sure you use enough thermal grease between the heatsinks and the STK392-110?s, too much is better than not enough. It will look like the 18 pins are all connected together on the PCB system board, but they are not, make sure you individually solder each of them to the PCB board, and do not let solder from one pin touch solder from the pin next to it!! Use the digital pictures you took and play them backwards so you can put your TV back together correctly. Attach your TV cable to the TV, plug it in, and use the remote to turn it on (stand back just in case you crossed some wires), it should work, and the picture should be perfect.

If the blue color is curving inward on one side, this is caused by one of the convergence IC's which has burned out. There are 2 large black convergence IC's mounted on large metal heat sinks and one of them will have to be replaced and that should be done by someone experienced in repairing and realigning convergence circuits. Some shops prefer to go ahead and replace both at the same time, removing the STK392-110's and installing 2 updated STK392-150's, which is not such a bad idea. When I do a housecall to repair a set like that I charge $150, since the IC's are about $7 each and it takes about an hour to change them, so ask around the shops in your area and see if anyone's price is better than $500, which sounds way too high.
