My Fender Blues Deville 212 has a very "ratty" tone on clean...

...and on the drive channels. I had a tech check the tubes and do a general cleanup. Sometimes it sounds normal though. I love this amp but can't rely on it for gigs.

Your amp has a what? The wording on your question is incomplete. If you can describe the problem a little bit, I'm sure I can help you out. :)

I am guessing on what the problem is , the post is very vague. i am guessing a channel switching issue. you need to check the "sugar cube" looking power resistors solder welds. they are probably cracked and arent making good contact. if you tap on the amp it will cut in and out, its probably these two resistors. they are usually 470ohm 5 watt cement resistors. what happens is they get real hot, and as they cool down they crack the little solder welds. i usually replace them with new and keep them floating up over the pcb to help them stay cool and off of the board to prevent further solder weld cracking, stock they are real close to the board. then put a little silicon under the resistor to hold it in place and to keep it still on the board. i just fixed a blues deluxe with this issue. while you are in there, cut out the resistor sitting right behind the reverb pot, this will make the reverb awesome. also solder the mid pot center leg to the mid pot leg that comes off of the bass pot leg to get better midrange control. very easy mods. check the master volume pot, is it a B100K? pull it and put an A250k in its place for better volume control. bias pots , etc. check my website yostamplifier.com.

Fender Hot Rod Deville 212 sounds ok then LOUD HUM

On mine, the guitar input jacks get tarnished and causes all kind of interference and noise. Take a Q-Tip soaked with WD-40, run in down into the jack and brush up and down. Don't overlook the filter caps as they are a common cause of noise. You need a capacitor checker (the older tube type) to thourghly check those out.

Fender hot rod deville 212 111. On the 2nd and 3rd distortion chanels the noise coming out of the speaker is very loud. Is this normal? Hard to play through the noise.

Hi. If the volume and drive levels are considerably low but you still hear a noise, you may want to consider trying a different guitar cable. The noise may be coming from a ground loop which is being amplified and overdriven by the amp itseld. I hope this helps. :-)

I have a Fender 2x12 Hot Rod Deville. The clean channel seems to be working fine but the overdrive channel is not. I have to turn it up all the way in oder to get just a little bit of sound. So that...

For the Drive channel you need to use the Drive control AND the MASTER volume control. When the Drive channel is active, the Channel Indicator lamp should be RED indicating the Drive Channel is active. The Drive control knob is used to adjust the preamp volume and distortion level of the Drive Channel. This gives you a clue as to what to check if adjusting the controls doesn't work -- the preamp tubes. Having said that, ONLY try to check these tubes with the amp OFF! Never stick your hand up into the chassis of a live amp. It could be lethal. Your preamp tubes are the ones farthest from where the power cord enters the chassis. They have a rubber like stabilizer on them. They have a tendency to wiggle loose, which is part of the reason for the stabilizer. Again, if you're not familiar with the insides...stay out and get an amp tech to help you.

The Normal Channel only uses the Volume Control to adjust volume.

My Fender Blues Deville (2-12)amp after heating up will cut out totally and then pop back in..thanks Mike

IF you can get the thing to fail while out of the case, the quickest way to find a thermal failure is with circuit cooler spray. Unless you are adept at electronics, this is probably NOT a DIY project.

The nature of your symptoms SUGGEST probably a bad solder joint or a cracked circuit board.

OFTEN the bad solder is around HEAVY components or POTENTIOMETER leads, especially where they support the board by those leads (dumb!)

A trained eye can spot bad soldering around a lead... you look for a tiny gray line around the lead part way up the meniscus of the solder fillet... see one, reheat the joint with a soldering iron.

Deville 212 overdrive channel making Loud humming noise

It sounds like a filter capacitor(s) has failed. The electrolytic caps dry out and cease to perform allowing unfiltered power to reach the preamp sections and get amplified.

Being this is tube with high voltages, an experienced person should work on it due to shock danger.

I assume you checked the tubes for shorts as well as emission since a heater to cathode short could cause this as well.

Hot Rod Deville, reverb squeal...

Here is an article that might help:http://www.guitarplayer.com/article/reverb-troubleshooting/jun-09/97165 Here is the schematic:http://www.fender.com/support/amp_schematics/pdfs/Hot_Rod_DeVille_Schematic.pdf Check to see if someone hasn't reversed the input and output cables at the reverb tank. Then troubleshoot the reverb section .

No clean tone

Look for bad electrolytic caps in the bypass caps for the power to the preamp stages.

No clean tone - no volume

First thing I'd check is if the valves / tubes are plugged in properly (it doesn't take much to loosen them) Unplug the amp then take out all of the valves and put them back in again.

If that doesn't work, try swapping the preamp valves (the little ones) around (let them cool down first) that'll tell you if one of them is worn.

Failing that I'd try cleaning the gain and volume pots with some switch cleaner, and if that didn't work I'd bite the bullet and buy a new set of valves.

Hope that helps
