Found 1 inch of standing water in the tub when about to load. Experienced bad odour. First time I have noticed standing water in the 5 years which I have had the washer. Periodically in the last 2 years I have noticed a bad odour before starting to load. Took no action because the machine worked well & the odour was not consistent.
The only other unusual characteristic which I have noticed in the last year is that when the tub is being filled with water the action of stopping the flow of water is making an increasingly louder noise.
The problem is usually caused by either a water inlet valve leaking by, or a pressure switch malfunction. The following link explains:

Included are tips on how to diagnose the problem and parts sources, if required.
The odor problem is a different story. Front loaders are notorious for musty odors, mold and mildew. A little diligence can help minmize potential problems and keepthem from coming back. The following link explains:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608512-getting_rid_front_loader_mildew_odor
Read through the link provided. In many cases, the problem is attributed to debris lodged in the drain pump reservoir, or some things the consumer should (or should not) be doing (e.g. using improper detergent or not leaving the door open when not in use). I personally own one of these washers and have never had an odor problem in the 8 years I've owned by following this regiment. It DOES work.
If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.
