It just stopped working one day. We put new batteries in and it came back on but a few minutes later it quit working again and hasn't come back on since.

Check your battery terminals are tight. It sounds as though they have come loose, or you didn't do them tight enough when you changed batteries. Perhaps clean the terminals both on the leads and the batteries, and finish with a wipe of Vaseline to keep water at bay. Good luck.
BUY A testmeter from ebay 7 quid, run bike and check output, no more than 14 ish volts put dial to 20 anti clock wise, also feel the resin on the back of the unit, if all bubbled a sign it is shagged. test with meter pins on the battery terminals,
Sounds like someone shorted the wires...you need to look into the entire butcher job and see what wires were touched. Disconnect everything the butcher did and then see if your battery is still drainning power.
Mine does the same thing. I contacted the manufacturer and they told me there's nothing I can do to fix it. They suggested I return it if it's under warranty (which it isn't). With no warranty they said there is no way to repair it.
