I have a GE Cordless 5.8 gigahertz handset and digital answerer. I can see the red light flashing during an incoming call, but hear no dial tone and no ringing. I just replaced the battery. The handset either says "READY" TALK" or "UNAVAILABLE", but I cannot dial outgoing calls. I can receive audio messages on the answerer, but no dial tone, no ring, and not able to dial outgoing calls!

    The bill is paid. It's not just incoming calls. The handset will not dial for outgoing (says UNAVAILABLE) and there is no audible dial tone. I can call in to this phone, leave and retrieve messages. Just can't call out or dial.

Hi anewearth,

With the indulgence of Compurepair, ivofreax10 and ser71....

If I understand your concern right, on your GE Cordless:
1. red light flashing onincoming call,
2. replaced the battery;
3. displays "READY", "TALK" or "UNAVAILABLE";
4. receive audio messages on the answering machine;
5. receive incoming calls.

But
a. no dial tone;
b. no ringing;
b. no dial out.

Things you can try:
i. unplug the base from the mains for over an hour to reset the system;
ii. once powered back, place the handset to the base unit's cradle for half a minute to "pair" the two. Pls try redoing the setup steps again;
iii. check if your home telephone wiring uses the 4 wire. the GE to my understanding is 2 wire only. If you have used the phone previously without this issue, pls disregard.
iv. if the handset battery is new, pls try charging overnight.
v. verify/try that this is the only phone connected to your phoneline;
vi. verify that Ringer in the handset is set to ON.

Resetting the system can and may delete all stored information.
If all else fails you may need to contact GE at 1-800-448-0329.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

The only wrong thing is that the internet is off or one of your cables is not plugged in correctly.

Hi,

Did you pay the Bill ?

this seems as if it,s incoming calls only. Check the line with an alternative Phone. This will verify the lines good. And eliminate that One.
Also check if theres A Tone/Pulse setting.
This can also have adverse effects.
If this is on an adaptor fitting with internet access, try removing the adaptor, and plugging the phone direct into the Socket.
Or try the phone on a seperate or diferent Socket.

Hope This helps.

    Hi,

    the paid the bill, was a little humour.

    I,ll assume you tried all my suggestions, as too having a faulty wall/jack socket.

    The lines travel 2 ways in and out.

    I was trying to establish that it is definately a phone fault, and not a line fault.

    One of our experts will assist you further.

    Keep Smiling :)

    It,s a beautiful Day Tommorow.

    Mike @ Compurepair.

A red light is flashing in the corner of the handset. How do i shut it off?

If your charge light is flashing and you have no messages on your answering system, you may have voicemail. Voicemail is provided by your telephone company and they would be able to assist you with retrieving those messages.

Once you have listened to the new messages, the blinking light will stop. You may also be hearing a stutter tone before your dial tone when turning on your handset. This is also indicating you have a new voicemail message.

All messages have been deleted but message button keeps binking?????//

Most of the time your home phone service has a digital voice mail like your cell phone does. If the answering machine is set for an amount of rings that is too long the digital voice mail service will answer before your machine. The new cordless phone indicators do show messages on your digital voice mail as well as the answering machine. Depending on your home service, most of the time when you press talk and you hear a different non standard dial tone(mine pulses 3 times before going to solid dial tone) you have a digital message. You need to delete this message before the indicator light will stop flashing. Then set up you digital voice mail for a longer pickup time! This should get rid of this problem.

The handset lights up and the incoming number is shown but you dont hear it ringing

Many times there is a volume switch on the actual handset itself. Most commonly on the left side of vtech devices. there are three different volume levels. By pressing up on the button you should be able to turn the volume up until it has an audible tone confirming volume change. Handset should ring with incoming call when audible tone is heard by pressing up on volume button.

No dial tone ,gets incoming, but cant hear anything, they cant hear me

Generic answer

You MUST get dial tone to talk or listen. Your base may ring but this may be unrelated to the telephone signal.

Check all wires and all settings. Are yoju certain your hand set is a member of your telephone group?

GE cordless model 26928GE2-A

Dial tone is OK, but can't dial out
• Make sure the tone/pulse setting is programmed
correctly.
TONE/PULSE DIALING
1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in TALK mode).
2. Use the CID/VOL left (-) or right (+) arrow button to
scroll to 1TONE or 2PULSE, or use the touch tone
pad on the handset to enter the desired setting. For
example, to choose TONE dialing, press the number 1
key. 1TONE is the default setting.
3. Press flash/program to store selection. You will hear a
confirmation tone.

Cordless receivers not working

If you have tried the phone base unit in the same jack that works correctly with your answering machine and you still cannot break dial tone, then you have a defective base unit. Jer
