I went to my office yesterday to find out my color Laser Printer (Canon Image Class MFC 8180c) went on "Download Standby". The LCD screen shows "DOWNLOAD STANDBY" and I have tried to reset it thrice, changed USB ports, changed my USB connector, telephone wires, upgraded software, and nothing seems to work. Is there a HARD RESET on the Printer? My printer is not printing, copying or faxing. Can anyone help?
Here is a solution to a similar problem provided by soulvisitor in this thread:
"1) - Power ON printer while holding both the + & - buttons until “OKIUSER” message appears in LCD.
2) - Press + or – button until “ENGINE DIAG MODE” is displayed.
3) Press "ENTER", displayed will be "DIAGNOSTIC MODE XX.XX.XX S-MODE"
4) Press + or – button until “NV-RAM INITIAL” is displayed.
Half way, dont stop too long it will time out....
5) Press "ENTER" again.
6) Will appear "TABLE 1" message.
7) Press "ENTER" until "EXECUTING RESET" message appear. ...............the "NV-RAM INITIAL" message will BLINK.
Tada....This procedure reset TONER, DRUM, FUSER and BELT...life counts
8) power OFF printer, wait 10 sec, and power ON again..
To access Service Mode in C9300 power ON printer with 0, 1, 6, 7 at same time...you can do some good damage in there!! (I warned ya!)"

That's not too good...let's get down to cases here
please disconnect printer from computer completely, let's get printer back on it's feet, then worry about seeing it on computer
let's make sure that driver is best..see this link
actually, your issue has been well read, and the links are useful. That error code does NOT appear on any of the Canon printer service or repair documents that are available. So, the LCD screen you are referring to is on the printer, or the computer?
sheesh...nothing like a 'similar' solution. Let's see what Canon can tell us directly,
direct from Canon, who I'm on phone with now, to benefit the whole effort here..
Uninstalling/Reinstalling the Software
Removing MF Toolbox
Removing MF Drivers
If
the drivers are not working properly, remove the drivers and install
them again. When removing the software, remove the MF Toolbox first,
and then the MF drivers. Even if you want to reinstall the software,
you must still remove the currently installed software. Before you
remove the drivers, make sure of the following:
You have the installation software available for installation.
No application is running on your computer.
technicians at Canon will provide that information in short order, hang loose
well..can't hang on much longer..call Canon cust service, and they'll route you to a technician..good luck on this one.
whew..good deal, Jennifer. Would you mind telling me what you found, so we can both learn?

The hard reset you are referring is done by unplugging the printer from the main power source and leave it like that for about1o minutes, to allow the circuitry to cool down and reset itself.
If the printer is less than a year old, still covered under manufacturers warranty.
Hope it works.

The previous person did not read my problem.
I still can not get the "Download Stanby" and none of the buttons work while that message is on the LCD. Now what?
"the canon standby download" is on the LCD of the printer. I think this has someting to do with a software in the printers, like a BOOT ROM or something like that? Software has to be updated using Canon Support Tool, via the USB port and System Software Version 60.02 or higher CD. How do I get a hold of that software system restore disk for Canon printers?
Thanks, Jen
Thanks, IB4G8000! I have accepted your answer - it wasn't entirely just the drivers, but I managed to get it up and running!
