METAL PLATE COVERING BOBBIN WON'T STAY DOWN

SINGER CG 550
The metal plate covering the bobbin, keeps popping up when I sew anything....I took the two little screws holding that little black plate surrounding the bobbin holder off the other day, and lost one screw...but I did put two screws back into it. Now the plate won't stay down. I've broken two needles already trying to sew. I don't know what else to do. It worked fine before I looked into that little hole, now it has a problem...what can I do?

Take it apart again and compare the original screw with the one you substituted. If they are not the same size, you will need to get one that matches the original.

Re-place the needle plate and when firmly in place, put the screws back in.

If the plate is moving up and down eithetr the teth are set far too high pushing the plate up or the teeth are set too far forward, I would go for the first, if the teeth are coming up well above the slot they are too high, they should be set so that when you look alongside the plate you can just see the top of the teeth, you can adjust the teeth by adjusting the screws underneath the machine where the teeth are.

How do I get the plate to close all the way after winding bobbin on the Singer 6235

When you wind your bobbin the center metal tip in the bobbin causes the bobbin to raise or lower. If you press on the center tip, you'll see that it is actually a spring that goes up and down. It sounds to me like that metal tip is stuck down in the bobbin winding position, which is not allowing the bobbin to settle down all the way! You might also check to make sure that your needle is at the highest point, and you have selected #2--the straight stitch. I learned all this from the instruction manual on page 14; it is available as a free download from the singer sewing machine site, and if you don't have one I would recommend that you get it--it's most helpful.

Model CG-550. Needle hits a bottom plate. All thread and bobbin removed. Took the feed cover off. Do not see the problem.

Possible bent or wrong needle. If ok, check the zig-zag mechanism to see if it has come uncoupled from the needle mechanism. Good luck!

New Problem...I have a Singer CG-550. When I try and sew anything, the needle hits something inside where the bobbin is. The little black casing holing the bobbin keeps moving all over the place, I slip...

On the right of the black bobbin case there are two screws, you can slacken those screws off and move the bobbin case nearer to the guard leaving enough room for the thread to pass through, if the needle is hitting the bottom you may need to retime the machine.

Bobbin case and threading singer 6423

This machine has a black plastic bobbin case. You drop the bobbin down into the case with the thread coming off in a clockwise direction. If you look close you will see a slot in the bobbin case where there is the metal pieces. The thread will slide into that and as you pull on it it will work its way through and come out on the other end of the metal. Lay the thread over top of the bobbin case and turn the handwheel to pick up the thread. (make sure you close the slide plate)

Bobbin Case

I'm having a similar problem today. I took out the bobbin case and when I went to put it back in, the whole system locks up. I've tired cleaning, changing needle taking the metal plate and piece that holds bobbin case out and put it all back in after cleaning. Nothing. My symptom is I can't get a complete stitch, the needle goes down, the whole deal acts like it will work and as soon as the arm of the bobbin case gets to 8 o' clock on the gears, It jams and won't hardly move. I cannot pull the bobbin case out easily after this. Perhaps there is someone out there that can help us!

Need to replace a bobbin cover plate

Hi,

Here in Australia, the dealer would get it in for you. The 'manufacturer' / distributor usually don't get involved with customers! I'd find a dealer near you and ask!

Good luck!
