If it is a potentiometer that controls the volume and you have some experience and a few tools you will almost certainly be able to find a replacement in one of the many constructor catalogues and be able to change it.

Modern electronics tend to just use buttons to turn the volume up or down and those have been with us for longer than we realise. In the early days of this technology the manufacturers wanted to use buttons but the buyers still wanted a nice big volume knob so there was a compromise where behind the big knob is a mechanism that presses buttons as it is turned.

I suggest you take the amp apart and take a look at which method is used. I have managed several years ago to repair such a mechanism by making a replacement pert from a piece of junk plastic.

Check the control out to see if a bad internal contact is the culprit. If the knob is working then the audio circuits of your unit are kaput.

check ebay there is a lot of people that sell knobs and such for older receivers for this very reason. older units that have failed and they strip it down etc. I'm not sure on your receiver but have seen many used knob sets the last few days for various systems.

You did not specify whether you have the old classic Becker or the new retro. I'm pretty sure that the knobs were "spring loaded" on my old '60's Becker (actually in a 1971 Mercedes 280S - later replaced with a Blaupunkt). On mine, you just pulled out lightly on the knob and it switched function to balance. One side, the volume controlled left to right balance, and the other side, tuning, controlled front to rear balance (fader). Try it and see if it works.

yes , there is an internal amp that will need to be replaced , but will also need to be tested for any other components on the amp that may have caused it to fail , unless you were just cranking it up, then the amp just burnt out and will need replacement
